Default *PICS* lowering cost...

I recently ordered my Tanabe DF210 Lowering Kit and I'm now going around town getting quotes for the spring install and the alignment...

So far I've hit up (6) different shops and to my surprise they have all said it will take about 6 hours to do just the springs. This seems like way too much time for this install.

I think the ALLDATA software program that most shops use to make quotes is way off on the time that this spring install takes.

Can I get some opinions and information on how long it took you guys for your suspension install and how much money it was.

My (6) quotes for the spring install and alignment range from $380-$628.

Here's the best price I got on Labor of spring install and alignment...

Here's a diagram of the Lexus GS300 suspension...

Here's the invoice for my DF210 springs...

I installed the same DF springs on my car a few months ago and it took me about 5 hours. This was doing it for the first time and only using hand tools(no air). It is suprisingly easy if you are willing to spend the time and do some research on the web. Definitely a good way to learn the details of your car...

1st time took me about 3.5 hrs to do myself on jack stands. now it will take me about 35 mins for front and rear. (unfortunately there was no $ involved here)

if your mechanically inclined and have the time/patience why not do it yourself?

if not, then you will have to pay the piper.

About 4 years ago I installed springs/spindle up front and blocks in the rear of my old ride and it only took about 1.5 hours with the help of my mechanically inclined dad....

My dad doesn't want to help me this time because he thinks I'm ruining my car and wasting my money because of the 20's and these new springs I just got and says I need to grow up and stop wasting my money on this crap and instead invest it into the new house I just got. The only problem with doing it myself is that at my house I don't have any tools so I would need to make another small investment right there.

I'm still considering doing it myself if I can't find a better price then $380. If I can find someone to do the install and alignment for $250 total I'll get it done right now.

Anyone here at CL have a shop do the install? How much did you pay and how long did it take?

How much does a coil compressor rent out for? and what tools would I need to do it myself?

I'm searching for a guide on step by step instructions right now to DIY.

I used this DIY to install my new suspension last weekend.

It's not that bad if you have a few buddies who can turn a wrench to help out.

Spring compressors can be rented from Autozone for $50.

check with some local guys in AZ, i know there's some but dont know which cities you all are in.
install + alignment in LA = ballpark $150-$300+/- depending on who you know. i'm too old for all this DIY, so i pay the man
i've spent so much on install, it could've afforded me some other nice parts for my car

Autozone will let you borrow a coil spring/strut compressor tool. Other than that, all you need are regular hand tools. I found someone on this board that provided step by step instructions. After following the instructions, I was able to do the spring swap without removing the upper ball joint, which was something I wanted to avoid. Tons of detailed installs on this board.

I've just installed mines last weekend and it took me 6 hours..using hand tools and a craftsman jack. First time ever on a lex..it was a pain in the butt... in the end it was all worth it!

of course it's expensive, cuz they have to take off ur old shock springs apart, it will be much cheaper if u get coilover

lol have fun with the spring compressors. By the time they're really compressing you'll see them bowing like asian kids greeting their grandparents.
