I just joined this forum and I just purchased a 2003 GS300 Crystal White with black interior with 49k miles about two months ago. So far, I had replaced all the rotors and pads since I was told that the rotors warped and also fixed the passenger front door lock with warranty.
However, starting about a month ago, whenever after driving for quite a while on the road, the center console (I don't know if it is behind the stereo or around under the shifter gate?) would make this weird loud noise that increases in volume and then stops. It will lasts for a few seconds and is hard to describe it but it sounds like an electrical noise. Does anybody happen to know what this might be?
Also, when the door lock was being fixed, I was told by the dealer that I needed front struts that holds the wheels across. I didn't do it there because it was too expensive for me they were asking for $700+. Then I went to different shops to try asking about it. The weird thing is that no one in any of the shops understood which part it is that the dealer was saying......can someone help me on this too?? Thanks very much appreciated!!!
Put on the struts yourself it is really easy to do. $700+ Thats crazy you can do it all 4 for under 300 dlls if you were in Cali I would help you put them on for 1/2 that prize including the struts.
Welcome aboard! Does that sound occur when you drive roughly 40 mph, and then as you accelerate, it disappears? I have the same problem, and my mechanic told me that there's sludge build up in the rotor and brake pad on the passenger side front wheel. It makes that noise a lot during the winter.
Don't listen to the dealership, aka stealership. They try and get you to fix something that was probably fixed by the previous owner. One thing you should do is post up here before you get anything done at the stealership. Some of the members here work for Lexus, and they can tell you the main problem a lot of the time. Other times, we have professional mechanics here who love what they do.
I'd go back to the dealership and ask them exactly what they were pointing out to, and take a picture of it, and post up
Thank you everybody...about the sludge build up on the rotors and pads, I just got brand new ones on. Also the noise comes up anytime after driving for a long period, stopped or moving, not just accelerating. It's so annoying when that happens and besides not knowing what might be wrong with it...=/
it happened with auto climate, radio on or off, so far it seems like it can happen anytime...
Try putting your climate into recirculate mode only and see if it still makes the noise. also take it out of auto for the fan speed setting. it seems to cancel the noise in my car. also the volume **** works really well.
lol turning the volume ****......actually I just went out with my car and I didn't have anything on I just opened the window instead, but the noise came again on my way back...
