what a mess. I don't feel like sears owes you new rotors, but they definitely owe you something. you can buy new oem rotors for about $125-$150 each from sewell I believe or new brembos from tire rack around $90ish each. sears should pay for lexus to put in new oem pads, but you should buy the rotors. the lex dealer wanting $700 to replace a seized bolt is a rip too.

maybe you can contact sears corp.?

Sorry to say I actually work for sears, as an HVAC tech. Anyway the best way I'd say to handle this situation is to contact a lawyer, that is if you want sears to cover the full cost. Contacting sears corp won't do you any good they'll just tell you, we'll look into it and thats the last you'll hear from them. However, when they hear the word lawsuit, they'll take action. Never take your car to them again. I took my sears work truck in for new tires and came out with the wrong size tires and loose steering and all this after waiting 6 hours, fortunately I was being paid. Hope everything turns out ok for you.

I don't think a lawyer is going to help you much. The amount you're talking about is a small claims matter and most lawyers aren't that good at fixing cars.

Good luck and either way through a lawyer or small claims the company does not want to be bothered. Make them pay attention to your cost and time anyway you can.

the lex dealer wanting $700 to replace a seized bolt is a rip too.
...dude, it is what it is. Its called flat rate labor & thats how dealers make money. Is it any different from any other type of business out there??? Its all about profitability.

anyway to the OP, sears doesnt owe you front rotors. ONLY if the rotors were ruined (hot spotted/ glazed) due to the brake pads being installed backwards do they owe you anything.other than that, they would just flip them back around. refund on alignments is thier cop out to not have to pay for anything. LOL...

not siding with them or anything, BUT you should have known better than taking you Lexus to a sears facility. I laugh when I see high dollar cars parked at Walmart. People living outside of their means.

If you haven't tried the MD Attorney Generals Office yet can you can file a complaint with the Consumer Protection Division, see links below:

You are just now responding to this thread and the last post was back in March?

You sound like you work for either the dealership or Sears. It's funny how you say: "Its all about profitability". If profitability means lying and screwing people over then you got it right. When i refused to pay $700 for Lexus to replace the bolt, they said, "oh, ok, we will try to do the alignment to the best specs then". Come to find out, they were able to do the alignment and turn that bolt very well without replacing. So you see my friend, i ended up paying $120 instead $700 because i didn't believe everything the dealer says like you probably do.

The end result was that the manager from sears agreed to pick up the bill from lexus (everything except the bolt which i didn't get done and new rotors.) Sears paid for the Road Force Balance, new front brakes, and the alignment. No, they didn't owe me new rotors, but if they had any customer service, they would have replaced them considering all of the hours and days i had to take off of work and seeing the headaches that i went through.

And for your info, i am not living out of my means. I did not take my car to sears to get my timing belt replaced, 60,000 mile service or anything else major. I just went there to buy some Michelin tires since they had a better deal than tire rack. Would you turn down a free installation? Hence, the alignment part came in when they said i needed one because of the new tires. If the only thing you know is how to blow unnecessary money at a dealership, then good for you.

Wow! now i'm thinking back to the days when i had couple budies that was working at sears and didn't know much about cars...How one of them had a hood fell on top of him while he was under the hood...I would never take my car there. Good luck with the case.

when is the last time you did brake pads on your car? the whole point is to have the friction material against the rotor. You put the other side, which has a metal clip and no friction material on it and brake on it for a while and your rotors are destroyed. This probably either wore the rotors down to the minimum allowed thickness or cut a nice little groove in them, or even both. therefore, not only are the rotors THEIR fault, they are THEIR responsibility to replace. As said before though, you're probably better off to have them pay for new brembos from tirerack and install them as well as new pads, as theyll probably be more willing to pay the lesser amount of money. either way, their **** up, their responsibility to fix. As for the camber bolt, its the stealership, what do you expect. But, that's something that is not to be trusted to anyone else, so i would tell the dealer to try heating the bolt (he did say that it doesnt work ALL THE TIME, meaning it could) and if that doesnt work, then you may just have to bite the bullet.

Agreed with Jcat.

If this was me, you can trust that they would have eaten the whole thing.

Pads, rotors, siezed bolt, AND fully refunded both alignments.

The nastygram my lawyer buddy would have sent for $100 would ENSURE
they fixed it all.

"Or, Mr, Manager, your other option is that I file my lawsuit, I file complaints with BOTH the BBB AND Consumer Protection, and then I call the local news and I tell them ALL ABOUT how you people like to treat customers. Now are you listening???"

They might not have siezed that bolt, but them fixing it to the tune of a $700 rape-job at the stealership would have been ample compensation for the time you lost to all this BS.

NO NO NO! i mean congrats on getting out of sears what you got but seriously my man use your head! putting a metal clip against your rotors, which you brake on day in and day out! a sharp edge as opposed to a (relatively) big, flat, smooth surface which was INTENDED to squeeze against your rotors to stop the car. You're extremely lucky they only screwed up 1, if it had been all the front pads, you very well could have gotten seriously hurt considering that small little metal clip wouldnt nearly provide the same braking force as the friction material.
