Default Has anyone hosed down there engines on a GS4?

I want to know if it's safe to hose down the motor after putting the engine degreaser. What do i need to cover on the engine if i were to do a engine clean?

well, i dont bother with the degreasers, i just go to the self car wash place, and use the pressure washer...
i first use the tire cleaner, then use the high pressure soap, then high pressure rinse, then use filtered "DI" water that they clame, because it wont leave any white residue on the metal and paint, and plastics, so no problem yet and my engine bay looks brand spankin new

nope, just dont get close to any of the wiring, meaning dont put the nossell very close to anything, just do a mist of tire cleaner, soap, rinse and filtered water rinse, and you are good to go, no covering of anything is needed, at least for me, but then i have a 300 and i think the 400 has a large plastic cover over it so no worries

I usually just spray Simple Green all over the engine bay....where ever there is grease or dirt....let it sit for about 5 minutes...then start up the engine....then blast away with the water hose....of course stay away from the air filter box.....then I come with my air compressor and blast away all the water (engine still running). Nice and clean.

Exactly what I do and that's coming from a professional detailer! I've detailed cars for 12 yrs! I would stay away from spraying too much water on the coil packs though. I have many experiences with the getting too wet and they have to be replaced! GL

I had some similiar experience when i had my mustang. They were the worst cars to get water in the cap and rotor.. I usually just wipe down the GS engine and use some tire spray non foam on the engine and then whipe it on by a hand sponge..

how do you avoid getting water in the alternator and what other components should I avoid getting wet?

With the engine off and cool I spray the engine compartment with Simple Green and use a soft bristle brush. Rinse the areas that need to be rinsed and use an air compressor and blast away the water that might have gotten in electrical connectors. Water and electronics do not mix. Try to keep water away from the alternator.

I don't want to take a chance since the starter is underneath the intake and i don't wan't to have a puddle underneath the intake and the water be just sitting there.

Any water between the starter and the intake will QUICKLY evaporate when the engine warms up. remember it is close to 200 degrees in there at all times, so I would not worry about any water.
