Does tint reduce rear radar detection?
Hi,
I was looking at the Valentine V1 and wanted to know if detection through the rear sensor would even work through my metallized tint. Any input from V1 owners would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Probably should work, just less efficient, laser is just light, light===> can be block or reduce in intensitive===> tint will do just that.
but,
I know for sure the blue tint on top windshield will reduce the radar range for the front (seen the study in the consumer report sometime in the past), so don;t mount you radar there.

GS – I’ve been using the V1 for several years now – in my old SC (tinted) and now in the GS (also tinted), and I can say without a doubt that it still works fine. Just how much the detection is degraded by tinting I can’t say, but I still get warnings from way-way back. I think you want to be careful about where you mount it – mine is just below the rear view mirror, but not quite as high as it could go – I tried to find a line of sight that was above the headrests and didn’t get blocked by the mirror. I think you’ll be pleased with the performance of the V1, go for it. Hope this helps!
Thanks Garnet,
The radar detectors use Light amplification by simulated emmision of radiation , otherwise "Laser" and they will from window tint lose some of thier strength by the tint slowing down the light transmission as Banana has pointed out. Mount somewhere where you will have sight, so that the signal can be strong yet not as obvious, probably somewhere near the dash or console. I am getting a Valentine here pretty soon and have many friends who own one and they said it is great.

Just got mine today, I've got limo tint all around, i can't really say how well it works yet, since I have not driven the car out yet, but my guess is it will reduce the effectiveness a bit, but it would still be better than not having one at all
