wind noise from closed sunroof?
Hello everyone... nice new format, huh?
Anyway, after taking delivery of my car last week, I found that when the sunroof sunshade is fully pulled back, I can hear a distinct sound coming from the sunroof area. When the sunshade is half or fully forward, the sound is gone. The noise appears when traveling 30mph or higher.
It appears from the exterior that the seals are all fine -- where would this sound be coming from? When I put my hand up near the sunroof when driving, I can't find any noticeable draft.
Has anyone else had this problem? Does the posted TSB eliminate this?
I figure I will let the dealership know when I take the car in for its 1000 mile check-up, but was hoping someone here might have some advice or suggestions on how to fix this. I hope it's not normal!

I've noticed the same wind noise from the sunroof area, along with a bunch from both driver and passenger front window area.
At my 1000 mile service, my dealer told me that it was "normal road noise," since they could not detect any air getting into the car.
It seems unreasonably loud to me (and several first-time passengers have mentioned that the car is not as quiet as they would have expected.)
I'm going to be more insistent the next time I go in for service.

The noise in the sunroof i don't get but the one in the Left door area yea i've heard it before....
Seems like it's coming from the area where the switches are. Used to have that in my other cars so i assume it's normal..

In answer to your question, one thing you can do, is go to a hardware store, and get a tube of a product called "sil-glyde". First, what you want to do is tilt the roof up, and lube the gasket around the glass, then slide the roof about half-way back, and lube the front half. Give it about a day and a half or so, and what will eventually happen, is the gasket will swell, and it will close off any gaps or pinhole punctures. This is perfectly safe, and will not ruin any parts.
Thanks Lextech -- I think that if the dealer cannot remedy my situation, I may have to go that route. Hopefully the service dept will understand what I am hearing when I take them on a test drive.
I also inquired about it at my 1000 mile service check and they stated they could not reproduce the noise. Something MUST be up with this.
Anybody have any ideas as to our options as a group?

Well, at least I feel a bit of "relief", if anything, knowing that I'm not going crazy because I hear this sound... What I am hearing is a faint, hissing-like sound, likek there's a small airleak. Of course, no rain water has come into the cabin thank goodness.
Occasionally, I also hear a small rattle and clicking sound when driiving over rough pavement. Does anyone think the Lexus TSB for 98-00 models for the sunroof will help mine and others' situation???
I will certainly bring this up next week when I take the car in for its 1000 checkup, pointing out that a few others here on this site have heard the same noise.
