Does the 2001 and 2002 Gs430 come with E- Shift?

If not, what year did it come with E-Shift?
Was it with the GS 300 or GS400/430

I had a "manumatic" car before my GS430 (Acura TL) and at first I lamented the lack of E-Shift. Then I started playing with gate shifting and at this point I use it more than I did SportShift on the TL. It's really virtually indistinguishable from other manumatics and the gate is well-designed for smooth, intuitive shifts.
Having said that, after reading about the 0.08 sec shifts on the new M3's SMG, I'd love to see a GS with one too!

Thanks for all the info guys.
more questions about GS 400 98-00,
1 Does it come in a V6 or V8 engine?
2 What is the lag time in E-shifting?
3 How much Horsepower?
4 0-60 in how many sec.?
Sorry for all these questions, cause I'm planning to buy a used GS4

The GS comes in two flavors, the GS3 and the GS4. Since the current model was introduced, the former, the GS300, has always had an I6 making 220hp/220lb-ft. The latter, formerly the GS400 and now the GS430, has a V8 making 300hp/310-325lb-ft (the GS400 has 310lb-ft; the GS430, 325lb-ft).
The lag time in shifting, whether with E-Shift or gate shifting, is a little under a second on average. In other words, you have to get used to it and build in a slight lead time when using it.
The GS300 0-60 is in the low 7s, I think. The GS4 0-60 is in the high 5s (5.7-5.9). The performance difference between the GS400 and GS430 is rather minimal because the displacement/torque increase is mostly offset by a corresponding weight increase.
Hope this helps,
Scott

I have a 1998 GS 4, I think I got the first one around western Canada. with aprox 120k miles/ 205k Km I love it. I will never buy a gs 430 cause I'm addicted to the e-shift. It's the only way to go Period. It's a better system than the BMW's because it only Automaticaly shifts out of 1st, then your on your own. It's almost like a true manual but better. I was thinking of getting an M5 But I feel tuned up totally it's The BEST car on the planet. To answer your questions here we go..
1. V8
2. Quicker than a real manual once you figure it out.
3. 300 hp (Stock) - 700 hp (Modified)
4. 5.7 Stock 0-60 (Motor Trend) 1998 / Under 4 seconds modified According to SRT.

Drool....SMG II
My next car, 2002 M3 Laguna Seca Blue, Convertible W/Bi-Xenons...Already saw one go on ebay for $56k...
Always use e-shift.The best featute- slow down your car,so you don't use brakes (old habbit, was always driving stick) and have enough torque to accelerate if needed. Other then that it's useless. Time for up- or down shifting is way to slow. Besides, don't know if anyone noticed, for some reason (at least on my car) under the hard acceleration still shifts 200-300 rpm bellow the red line!! Thats 0.1-0.2 seconds at 0-60. Recently I started using manual shifting- same slugishness and, I'm afraid, potentialy dangerous for transmission. I figure, if the time of shifting (even if only 1-st to 2nd gear) can be reduced
by 0.2-0.3 seconds, which is very realistic, plus shift exactly at the red line... . You figure out what it can do to acceleration ##.

I'm dying to try it out
Globe - Hmmm, I doubt it would work, but I don't see why Toyota won't develop one for the IS/GS...even the SC...
Enginyr - Yes, the SMG II system is worth drooling over...but I'd rather have Toyota actually make the unit...that way, I know it'll work correctly!
