Default Air cabin filter YUCK with pics

I pulled out my cabin air filter the other day and took a few pics. I could not believe all the stuff that was trapped by the filter. I then tried to replace the filter with a high quality air filter.

I then cut out the filter. Note: no carbon. The carbon is pretty important to eliminate odors. This was my first trial.

I think that this is okay. Not great. I think it would do okay to protect the evap and other important parts. But, no carbon. I went to lowes and bought the air filter that they have as a universal with carbon and cut that to size and installed it. I made 4 filters out of a 10 dollar filter. I am pretty satisfied with this version of the filter. Thanks to bananasGS for the idea.

I did not take a pic of the final product but I am sure you have the idea. I used tape around the edges again. I am pretty sure this will be my final ideal towards the cabin air filter.

This pic shows the filter elements from a scrap peice.

The black part is the carbon and the greensih blue is the filter. Air flow is thru the greenish blue media then the carbon.

Even worse is that most people dont even know there is a cabin filter in our cars. Everytime I drove around, there is always a GS with its windows up and AC on. I can't help but to think how dirty the air is

when I changed my airfilter it was nasty. I replaced it with the blitz filter and it made a huge difference. Its amazing how much crap gets in there

What's crazy is to think that before you took it out, you were breathing in all the stuff that it couldn't catch. Yikes. I seriously think that they should have like some sort of light on the A/C control to let you know that the filter isn't working at top efficiency. That could become hazardous to your health after a while!

Didn't someone here have a dead mouse stuck in their cabin filter?

Yeah, I think that filter would take the cake right there.
