I've changed PCVs on my other vehicles but this PCV has a brass hex nut around the valve and I don't know how to remove it. Is this an OEM replacement? How do I seperate the plastic valve from the nut?
That doesn't sound right, there shouldn't be any nuts on the valve. I'll look at my car today when I go out for lunch or if another one comes in for a service.
You dont really have to replace the pcv valve unless it damaged or you have a bad carbon buildup problem. Most times you can just take it out, clean it up real good and it will be good as new.
The original pcv valves are made out of metal and most replacements are made of plastic. So you are better off with the factory one
As for taking it out....I just pulled it out real hard. I had to use some pliers
On the V8 its on the driver side valve cover towards the front of the car. It was have a padded vacuum hose running back to the throttle body. Just remove the hose and pull up on the valve itself and slip the new one on, simple as that.
It should just pull out. When i did mine, the replacement part was plastic and cost about $4. Can't hurt to change it and should only take about 3 mins tops. GL
Thats true. On the later model has a brass fitting. You are suppose to change the valve only. If the fitting has the valve then you gotta change the whole unit. You would need a wrench.
my 02 gs3 has the fitting, you need a wrench like gs4 fiend said to remove it... if its the factory one its on there really tight. a little bit of liquid wrench should loosen it up.
yup the hardest part was getting the old one out.. a piece of rubber fell down in the valve cover and had to use a tweezer to get it out.. Pretty straight forward IMO.
