Call up Sewell and order the ball joints, and maybe the outer tie rods. Here is a DIY I wrote up about replacing the two. Its not that hard and it will only cost you $200 in parts. Don't end up paying some rediculous amount for labor...its relatively easy. Here is the link to the DIY.
All you people who replace ball joints: Do you replace them with the same OEM part that was on there before? If so, whats to prevent them from failing again?
Any idea when these came out? I'm wondering if an 03 needs replacement.
1. jack up your car
2. get yourself a glove or towel
3. try to move the front wheel up and down, see if there's any free play
4. if there is, replace the joints now.
great thanks fellas, just wanted to be clear...i got a buddy that works at lexus and just wanted to make be clear on what i needed...ball joints is definitely a go, what about tie rods, steering rack bushings? i mean i know once again it won't hurt to replace but i am on a budget (that's why i got a 1998)
i just callled Lexus of Wilmington, asking them how much will it be to change Ball joints, tie rods, steering rack bushings, the guy said dont spend exta cash if not borken yet, wtf...he wonldnt even give me an estimate

What is the glove or towel for?
Afraid to get your hands dirty?

that is utter BS. this is what it looks like AFTER the ball joints break. Tie rods can wait, not the ball joints. I think 150bucks is cheap insurance.
and guys, this subject has been covered numerous times, search first.
btw, lower ball joints alone will be 525 (estimate) through Lexus. Tie rods and lower ball joints will be over a grand.
