Default what we ALL really need...

this issue has been addressed OVER and OVER again...the main culprit is simply the design of the Lexus steering...many have done a variety of modifications (bushings, steering rack pretensioner, chassis mods, etc) and STILL for those that drive their car everyday...you will know the steering is the WEAKEST link of the GS.

lately the problem has really jumped out to my attention because nowdays i do more spirited driving ever since i got my sparco milano prestige seats installed. and to tell you the truth...i am VERY happy with the way the car handles...but the steering is just SOO WEAK...

I will say tho...I have tightened up the steering pretensioner and it really changed the car...the steering was SOO AWESOME, with my endless 6 pot...i could break hard from high speed and there would be NO steering wheel play at all! it was UNBELIEVEABLE. put it this way...i didnt even have to hold the steering wheel.

UNFORTUNATELY...the GREAT feeling was just TEMPORARY and now the car keep reverting back to steering play..

I have Nagisa Auto tie rods on order and hopefully it will reduce some bump steer but I will tell you...there must be SOME company out there that can create a SOLID steering rack for the 2nd gen GS. I know this is easier said than done but to the all the CL vendors...I can guarantee EVERYONE will be on the list for a steering rack.

to this day I LOVE my GS to death! its really been a dream from day 1. the only thing i am really disappointed is the steering....the handling i am not worried about...thats why we got TOMS! its the STEERING....

I drive my car almost every day, and I concur.

Improved with the Daizen Bushings, but still it's the weak link.

Bump steer, I can't stand it. My previous car had an issue with the rack and pinion assembly which lead to the bump steer. I don't notice that much of it with the GS though.

Maybe someone can retrofit a BMW rack into the GS ?

I'm sure most of the mechanicals should be similar...I mean rack and pinion is rack and pinion right? Just make sure that the cylinder diameters are matched correctly and it should work. Have a few custom brackets machined and welded onto the rack and you can tell everyone you car has steering identical to a BMW

I've actually been working on this

But the problem is finding a rack that's the right shape that fits on our cars without much fabrication.
