When my a/c is off, it makes these weird noises as if it's trying to adjust in between modes. When the a/c is on, the noise is still there but not noticeable b/c the fan blowing is louder. I don't know if the a/c unit has flaps that opens and closes automatically but it sounds like my a/c is confused. This started a while back....say 2 yrs ago but I didn't pay much attention to it. But now, it's much louder and sounds like the a/c will give out one day.
On a second note:
On certain days, when I first turn on the a/c it doesn't blow out cold air no matter how low I set the temperature, just like turning on regular air. As I drive about 5-10 mins then the cold air comes out. It's not the compressor b/c when I manually press the a/c button I can hear the compressor clicking on and off in the engine. It's not low on refrigerant b/c when cold air does come out, it's cold.
3rd note:
My a/c would not automatically switch back and forth while it's in the auto recirculation mode. The option with the light lilted in the middle for the circulation mode. It only stays in outside air mode. So for now I just select for it to stay in the circulating mode. ?????
I also have a problem with the A/C on my 99 GS300. It has a leak some where in the system. My drivers side will get cold, but not the passenger or rear seat vents. I really notice the problem when it's really hot (Florida approx 95 Plus degrees). I've added R-12, it just leaks out in approx 2 months. Let me know if you get an answer to your problem.. I know, it's not the best thing for the environment...
sinc4e the weather is getting past 90 that ac is like gold right now/ what is the difference when you select the in car auto on.
There are three selections to the automatic circulation mode. The 1st is selecting recirculation air only, the 2nd is outside air only, and the 3rd is automatic. In automatic mode, the a/c unit lets in outside air in freely until it detects some smog then changes to recirculation air. It switches back and forth automatically; hence the auto circulation light in the middle is on along with one other light (outside or inside air).
On my car in particular, I can’t use that auto mode anymore. It tends to only stay in the outside air only. I’ve changed the sensitivity of the auto mode but that didn’t do a thing.
