Default outside temp reads -22 degrees

Aloha brahddahs!

Just bought another GS3, this time pearl white, and the outside temperature reads -22 degrees and does not change.

Is this a sensor issue?
Is there a DIY for replacing?
How much am I looking at?

Much mahaloz for the help!

Mine was reading wrong yesterday too.

It said 94 degrees...

but Mom's BMW was only reading 80 degrees...

It seems to be reading the right way now.

BTW, I only put it on dual because I like the green lights..... After all, this is my first car... So I find any light extremely cool. Lol.

Hehe, I wish the temp was wrong when it reads 94+ down in here in Florida.

South Florida no doubt. I used to live in Miami, the temperature was SICK in the summer. I'm up in Jacksonville now, but it got to 100-101 two weeks ago...and that was in the shade.

In the process of fixing my car I did not replace the temperature guage which was damaged. My outside temp reads -22 so I would say you have a bad sensor. A new one would run me through oelexusparst.com.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll try removing the positive terminal from the battery and see what happens...

I would guess that this is either a broken (open) sensor or a broken wire/bad connection.

I am currious what you find?

I got a reading of 101 degrees today too. I checked the internet, and it was really 101 degrees outside...... in Boston! Woo! At least I know my sensor isn't broken.

Since that has been ruled out, any other suggestions? Also, where is sensor located so i can take a look at it?

I say just go ahead and pull the ECU fuse. Go ahead and get that out of the way. But its more like 45 minutes for this reset.

Did you ever figure out how to fix the temp gauge? I have a 98 GS300 and have had the same issue for about 2 years now. Your help is much appreciated!

It's the outside temp sensor. It's located behind the front bumper approximately under the driver side headlight. It's fastened on under the metal crash bar. The dash will read -22F if that sensor is disconnected, broken, or shorted out.
