Yeah like most people are saying, i would take it off my self its just the side windows now if it was the rear winodw I would leave it up to a pro. items needed for removal: razor, glass cleaner, time, patience. It should take about 30 mins each window. The razor and glass cleaner is for getting the glue stuff off and any tint left on the window, cause you can just pull off the tint by hand. At least in my experience, I have only done it four times, it turned out great each time.

No, im pretty sure no percentage of tint at all is legal on the front windows, i did a lot of reaserch on this because i was so frustrated when i got my fronts tinted an had to take em off for a BS fix-it-ticket. Cop was like "nope, it's illegal if there is any on the fronts..." when i aksed him. I actually was planning on fighting the ticket by looking up the CVC law and trying to use that as my defense. It was written for the purpose of the saftey of the car's driver, but cops do not enforce it in this way. They instead use it as an excuse to see into your car at all times. The CVC It basically gives a couple contradictory laws about what is legal. One says 70% is ok, and one says that you can only have something on your front windows if you have a freakish medical need to be screened from sunlight, and only with a doctors letter... and of course only at day time.. But given that, a judge could alwasy interpret the laws in the cops favor. Too many laws here in Cali, we got screwed from too many people doing everything criminally possible

by the way, to the poster of this thread... good luck getting that f---ing film off you windows. Its a PITA. There was actually 2 layers, one with the smoke film color and a clear layer that came off seperatley which was virtually invisible and hard to see.

Shouldn't cost more than $20 to get the tint off both front windows at a tint shop.

Just leave it on and take a picture of a car just like yours and bring it to court and show the judge it was removed

I just took my front window tints off this past friday for state inspection (unnecessarily I might add since they never even rolled up the windows to check if I had tints), and taking off the film is the easy part, taking off the glue is the tough part. It's difficult to get the glue that stays on the edge of the glass. My father helped me and we used some chemical that makes your hands white, lol. The razor method was my method of choice. But like others suggested, I would just pay the ticket and keep the tints on.

$75? That's an amazing deal for tint...

My friends are obsessed with tint I think. Another one just got double layered limo on the sides and 25% on the windshield...WOW

I would leave it on and not worry about it. I dont know how it is in California, but in Florida most cops have something better to do than to pull you over for tint. I think you just had some REALLY bad luck, but it probably wouldn't happen again. I would assume that the cops in Cali are more interested in bigger crimes, like they are in Florida.

Guys.... There is no fine...I asked Cop about whether I can pay for a fine?

He said there is no fine that I need to pay. I just have peel it off, and show it to any cop, mail it.

I have to do research on this. As far as cop told me, there is no fine that I can pay. It's a fix-it ticket. What happen if I don't take them off? Will it be part of my history and record?

first time, you have a $10 court transaction fee (maybe more now) and the signature of a police officer saying tint has been removed on back of the ticket. You can also just pay a fine and not worry about removing the tint. it maybe worth paying the court fine if you plan on re-tinting the car. once you get the court payper work, you will now all your options.

Tint in cali is only legal if it's from factory, inside the glass.

I got pulled over for my tint and the meter registered 20%. So the cop started asking me if I had TRD parts on my car and what's with the boost gauge. He said he never seen a Lexus with a turbo before, so he went back to his car and ran my stuff. Then he came back and let me go, Boosted FTW
