Default Key help

The screw came out of my remote control key and the metal piece fell out and i lost the damn thing. I was wondering if I were to just get a locksmith to cut me a new key off one of my spares and put it back into the remote, would it work? Is the immobilizer chip inside the plastic remote portion? or the metal piece?

The imobilizer chip is the remote section. The only problem you'll have is the metal piece is usually bonded into the plastic case, once it comes out you woun't be able to get a new one to stay. If you can get just the case cut you can switch your remote/imobilizer over and be all set. Lexus has started selling case only for the warranty repairs and my dealer has an assortmant of different colors.

Hope that helps.
