Default Finally got a GS!

hey guys, in the past January my 99 Lexus ES300 was totaled due to a hit n run on the highway, thats 4 months ago and I just bought myself a 2001 GS300 platinum silver ext/ black int with 79k miles for $13.5k.

Before I start doing anything I just have a few questions: I wanna install an intake in the gs, which one should I go for?

Another question: Do those performance chips that are selling on ebay really work? They are said to increase the HP of the vehicle without increasing gas usage just from messing around with the ECU timers. Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

Gotta go with the SRT intake setup. On the expensive side for an intake but worth the money.

Welcome to CL!

Don't buy a crap cheap intake. You will regret it trust me. I've been there and done that! Get a properly engineered intake like one from Injen or SRT. Yes it costs more, but you won't have any trouble getting it to work on your car. They are properly built and designed for the GS air sensor and engine components. The MAF air sensor on the GS is very sensitive so whatever intake you slap on the car must be designed accordingly. If not your car will constantly stall out and you will actually lose speed rather than gain any speed at all. Just get a good intake and spare yourself the headache. If I could do it all over again, I would definately buy a properly made intake.

Automan and Jefftsai answered your question.

Do not buy those crap "performance chips". I was a sucker for those thing long while back -it's a cheap 10cent resistor placed across the maf sensor

I just searched for some intakes and came across the Weapon R Secret Weapon Intake system for the 01-04 GS300. Are those made to fit nicely on the gs300 air sensor and engine components? And what is the credibility of weapon R intake systems?

haha i have a srt for sale for the 01 gs300 it is not complete since it is missing the heat shield and installation manual. but at this point i'm just trying to get rid of it. it still comes with everything as far as the intake, filter, maf sensor adapter, and ecu upgrade.
