Well, I went to my mechanic and asked him about the lower ball joints and he gave me a quote of close to $400 bucks, after I got jipped for $350 for getting the 02 sensor done. So, a ghost came to me in my sleep and told me, “If you make it, … they will come. If you do it, … you will save!”
I woke up with a new vigor! Hell with the “Stealerships” and “Pep Shop Boys”. I decided to make my car – MY CAR! I’m gonna buy me some tools and a jack and everything else so I can work on my car. I’m gonna do the Retrofit’s, the springs, and everything else! Either I’ll “F” it up and learn, or it’ll turn out nice. As long as I’m keep it slow and steady and remember how it was hooked up before I messed it up, I shouldn’t have that big of a problem. For the big stuff, I’ll pay someone else. But for everything else, I’ll Do IT and take pics for CL!
My dad was a mechanic and I learned some stuff from him. My uncle had his own body shop and I helped him one summer. I hooked up amplifiers and speakers and such, I put tint on my other rides in the past, I’m a network engineer and have done a lot of work on PCs, Servers, Routers, Switches, and the like, I can cook anything with instructions on the box, and what I’ve learned – if you “measure twice and cut once”, you don’t make many mistakes.
Just wanted to post this and encourage people to do the same. Take ownership and pride in your abilities and your ride!

You inspired me so much I wanted to slap my wife...Then I woke up. LOL. Seriously good luck, wish I had the time to do stuff on my car but 12 hour shifts and 6 month old don't afford such luxury. Can't wait to see how it looks when you finish.

Go for it. You will never learn if you don't try. Start slow and eventually you can get stuff done quick.
I worked on the GS myself ever since I got it. Now i have about 2years experience under the belt, I'm ready to install/build my own custom turbo system. The first suspension I installed on a GS took about 5 hours. Now I can do it in about 1.5hours
Experience is everything!

Experience is everything! Thanks guys! But maybe someone could help me out. Anyone got a book on the GS300? Not the "Idiots Guide to Car Repair" but the real deal, Chilton's Guide or something to that effect? Are they any out for the GS300?

Yeah, you can get the Toyota factory service manual for the GS300. I think it's about $200-250 for the set. There's two books in the set.Originally Posted by DoingDamag
