Default replace computer with evap canister?

My dealer is telling me that my check engine light is on because I have a bad evap canister. OK, that's one of four things (gas cap, canister, hoses, VSV) that I'm consistently seeing on-line as possible causes. I've already replaced the gas cap, and it didn't help. He's been straightforward with me for the past 6 years (no unnecessary or expensive repairs), so he's likely to be correct on this. BUT... he's also telling me that the 98 GS400, uniquely, requires changing the engine computer to work with the new canister. THAT is something I haven't been able to find anything about on-line. Can anybody here confirm or deny that?

thanks, Ed

I highly doubt the engine computer will have to be replaced. That would be a very very expensive repair bill!
