Default 1999 Lexus GS400

Hey Guys, I just registered with the site because I am thinking of buying 1999 GS 400. I am very new to the Lexus scene and only thing I know is that they are damn reliable cars. I am in Toronto, Canada. The car has 64K miles and it is being offered for 13.7K CAD + 14% tax.

Guys I just want to know from you all as to what I should check out on this car that may be troublesome and to watch for.

I would greatly appreciate everyone's help!

I bought my 99 GS400 about 14 months ago and paid about the same price ($11,250 US), except for the 14% tax and mine had 112,000 miles on the odometer. I haven't regretted my decision for a second and for that price I suspect that you won't regret it either. If you're not buying from a Lexus dealer (and if you have the time to do this) you might want to get the VIN and call or stop by and introduce yourself to the Lexus Service Manager and ask them to provide you with some information on the car.
I might wait for a few more members to chime in but it seems like a very fair price to me. Good luck!

With all the rescent threads about failed ball joints, I would check those out. You may be a tad early but mine started to fail at 74K which is less than a year away for most drivers. Parts and labor for both sides at Lexus Service was just under a grand. Not sure if that's the average going rate but it didn't surprise me either.

just make sure you know what you're getting for that price. sounds like a good deal.

i got my 2000 GS4 w/ 76k miles for $18k, but it is in near mint condition inside and out with black on black with a couple promises on the due bill from the SUBARU dealer. ($23k KBB)

this is after being in the market for about six months looking for a low mileage black on black 2000.
HAD TO BE REAL CLEAN.

the ONLY thing i have to deal with right now is that damn sunroof rattle.

oh yeah, I LOVE MY CAR as well

Thank you all guys, this is a local repossession depot. I am taking my mechanic with me on Monday to take a look at the car properly. Looks like very well maintained car.

Thanks all, so that means that there isnt any major issues with the car? Transmission, engine?

hey,
am in toronto too.
believe for the location, mileage and model, that is a sweet price. as long it checks out as a clean car(history and all).
what color is the car.
try taking the vin to a lexus dealer to check the history.
also if possible, take the car itself to a lexus dealer for an inspection. (prevention is better than cure)
maybe we can all hook up if we have enough members in canada.
goodluck and let us know how it goes.
