Default Headunit Crisis!!!

So I've been working on my LED conversion for my 01 gs300 headunit, but I somehow screwed up the PCB board (one of the metal came off of the solder joint). Now I am in need of a new PCB board, but then no one is going to just sell me a PCB board, so I decided to swap out the headunit.

Should I go with aftermarket flipscreen, hunt for classifieds, or suck it up and pay $600 at the stealership?

For me, if a part breaks, that gives me more of an excuse to "upgrade." Although many of us here already upgrade when that part is in perfect working condition. I'd say go for an aftermarket flipscreen. Many of the guys here have one with the double din tray and I think it looks awesome.

i also highly recommend the double din set up. i have an eclipse unit and am very proud of it...but have seen some of the new pioneer stuff and that is also sweet. its gonna cost dough, i would estimate in the range of at least 1 grand unless you get lucky with the price of the unit itself. but i always advocate it and think it is a great investment. youd be surprised how different the car will look too.

Oh man.... I think it is more of opinion. Some of the members here who are really into car stereos may be able to single out maybe the best 1 or 2 for our GS. Then you could keep your eyes open for some good deals in case the brand/model you want is for sale. Some of the ones that come to mind are Alpine, Pioneer, Eclipse, etc. You may want to consider things like, do I want one with Nav? Or sreen size? I don't know if they make anything bigger than 7". Flip out or integrated screen? Touch screen? Price range? You should probably make a thread or ask a mod. to move this one over to the audio forum.

You didn't mention... do you have the regular "Premium Sound?"
If you have Nakamichi or Mark Levinson, it will be difficult to integrate an aftermarket radio with the factory outboard amplifier.

I'd trash the stock unit and go to a double DIN set-up. I don't care for the flip-out units in the GS- why bother, as there is space for a double DIN.

You'll need to buy a mounting kit for it- I would recommend using the OE Aristo kit which comes with the OE trim and ISO mounting brackets, making installation easy and integrated looking Check out carson Toyota for this part.

I have non-premium system. Ok so double DIN set-up...i've been reading up on past threads, and it sounds like people were having wiring problems. Is there any plug and play kit out there? If i were to DIY, would it be too troublesome?

Mods: if you see this, move the thread to the audio thread plz.
