Might sound weird but...
I've already asked how dependable the Gs is and am very impressed with what i have been told but i would like your opinion. Which would you choose honestly between a Gs with around 100k on the odometer and a Altima with half the milage? The reason i said it may sound weird is because i know the 2 cars are not in the same class but would like to know what you guys think. Oh yeh and we are talking about a 98-99 Gs and a 03-05 Altima of course for them to be aroung the same price.
Thanks,
Thanks,
Honestly, it all depends upon how well the GS has been maintained. Assuming the car has been serviced regularly, and the seller has the records to prove it, I wouldn't be concerned about 100k miles. However, as with any car, parts tend to wear out around 100k and things like ball joints, shocks, bushings, motor mounts, and other wear items will need to be replaced. Also, the GS is notorious for having the starter go out at 100k miles, so that's also something to watch out for (although you can't predict if or when that will happen). I'm sure others will chime in with their thoughts as well.

I would definitely take the GS, it's faster, looks better, handles better, RWD, more luxurious, etc.
Maintenance will cost you though, around 100k you'll have to do the timing belt (if it hasn't been done already), probably replace your ball joints, possibly have to replace your starter, your door actuators could start going out, etc. None of that is cheap either. I'm not sure how reliable the Altima is, but I am sure that it's cheaper to fix when something does go wrong
The decision should come down to how much money you have/are willing to spend on your car

Hey E!
Thanks, alot...Thats the kind of honest answer i was looking for, and those are some great things for me to think about like the ball joits, starter, etc, That way i can maybe call the dealer and see how much i will be looking at to replace those things if i do decide to go with the Gs.
Thanks, again...

Thanks, another great reply. I dont really mind replacing things other than the engine. I would try to get a later model Gs but right now im paying for a mustang and a bike but have always loved the Gs, so possibly i will wait to get a Gs after one of my other toys are payed off or i will go ahead and try to find the cleaness Gs with 100k thats out there.
Thanks, bro!

It's a base V6 model with an automatic, and it's actually considerably slower than my GS400, and probably doesn't handle as well either, but it's SO much more fun to drive than the GS is. Driving the Stang has basically sealed my decision to get rid of my GS and buy a sports car as soon as spring rolls around. I'm thinking of getting either a Vette, Porsche Cayman S or Boxster S. I can't wait. The GS is a great performing sports sedan, but at this point in my life (I'm 23), I just want a sports car
It might not be what you're looking for, but if you want a black 99 GS400 with about 110000miles on it, with a brand new starter, mine is available. It's a Canadian car (speedo and odometer in KMs, temperature readout in Celcius) that I brought down to Boston with me and registered it in Massachusetts
The starter alone cost me $1000 Canadian and while they were replacing it they said one of my hood struts seized and they charged me $400 for a HOOD STRUT!
It's funny that you mention the Mustang because some b#$ch hit the rear driver's side door of my GS400 about a month ago and her insurance is paying for door to get repaired, and I was told I could get a rental car "comparable to my own car" while my car is in the body shop. I told them to give me the nicest car they had, and all they had was a bright yellow 2006 Mustang so I took that

I will keep you in mind, and good luck on your sports car purchase, and with your choices im sure you will like any one of those.
A properly maintained GS will last for a long long time. My family has a maxima and it has half the miles than the GS3. The maxima has been in the shop more times than I can recall. The GS has a much better interior whereas Nissan's interior is pretty cheap looking. The newer altimas looks much better than the previous gen but then everyone has one. I have had a couple altima rentals and they are pretty boring to drive. Lastly, even though 3rd gen GS is out, I still like the 2nd gen, it has an endless style!
gs in a heart beat, the gs beats the altima in ever aspect ( in my mind. performance, handleing, style) even if your just getting the car to impress somone, id rather say i own a lexus gs that a altima, it sounds better and feels better, and a few have mentioned the cost of repairs/ parts being over priced, im gonna have to disagree in my case, i wrecked my gs back in sept. and the estimate was over 9 grand, granted i did 90% of the labor myself but i only have 1300 envested in fixing it, and its better than it was b4
when my altima turned 200K, i bought a Gen2GS with 60K...only regret is MPG and I'm okay with that. i almost went to a g35 or maxima, but my buddy turned me onto Lexus and only wished I would have know sooner.
The mods available are outragous and rwd is where its at cause drifting the beast is a blast!
