Just as a follow up to the thread about my timing belt change on my GS400 at Toyota. I took it to Toyota last friday for the timing belt change. It was close to my home plus reasonably priced. Now the bad news...The job turned into a nightmare. They did not timed it correctly and did damage to the valves. If I had a choice to do it over again I would let Lexus do it! I guess maybe it is due to the lack of experience with the V8's. The good news is that Toyota is taking full responsibility and got me a rental car for the duration. I'm expecting to get it back by next thursday. So I guess I will be spending my holidays without my GS this year. I really hope there is no problem with it down the road.

WOW that sucks. Having to re-do the valves when it didnt even need it. Youll be fine down the road AS LONG as this time they do a good job.

Lkevon, sorry to hear that, that must really suck. At least they're taking responsibility for it. I've done a few timing belt changes but never on a V8, so it's going to be new for me when i do it on my GS400, still got 18k miles to go though for the 90k service. Good luck to ya

my 90k service cost about 1500 at a good non-dealer shop. At dealer, 90k service will go up even more.

That includes timing belt, serpentine belt, water pump, spark plugs and basically everything in the dealer's 90k list.

I would be really surprised if it is the original 23 year old belt...

Mine was the original 20 year old belt which had 220000km(137000mi). All the writing on the belt was worn off but showed no signs of cracking. My serpentine belt on the other hand looked like it was ready to give up.
