Make sure the shop use brand new oem parts. I had damage like yours, just a little more. My car is better now after the repair since I got new bumper, hood and head lamps. Insurance company tried to use some after market and reconditioned parts initially.

in vancouver, bc,canada... the previous owner (my exboss) had a biiiig nose hit $30,000+ damage... it went to vieta import autobdy... they specialize in lexus...

walk into a random bodyshop of your choice... see how "dusty" it is... if the shop is clean, then look around at the types of vehicles they work on... if you see a number of japanese cars with bigger nose hits, then you know that these guys should be more than up to the task of repairing your car...

btw, that collision is minor... looks like $5000 of damage... nothing major...

Question ok, so the hood will get opened tomorrow

I have sent the car to a shop for now...

through some connections, I was able to get new OEM HID headlight assembly for $780 each (orig price quoted was around 1100). insurance pays $360 per broken halogen lamp; so I am hoping that the retrofit will work out around 1 grand

I had been diving for a while and read a few threads including the following

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=162629

I still have a few questions regarding this...

1. will auto leveling work? is the head light unit self contained for auto leveling? Or is there a separate plug for the sensor...
2. seems like that all that there is to be done is connecting the 2 wires coming out of ballast and somehow connect with the 9006 connectors on the car (combination of splicing, crimping...etc) Is that a fair statment?
3. other than the connector from the ballast, the squar ish connector which exists on both halogen and hid; are there any other difference in the two types of head lights?

THX for all the help you guys provided and will provide

I will try to get some more pix from the shop as they will start working on the car

If your car did not come with HID's from the factory then the auto level will not work. There is a whole sensor unit and control computer for the auto level system.

As for connecting the ballast, just splice the wires into the stock harness. I'd recommend you to run a relay harness, but it's not 100% necessary. If you don't want to splice into the original harness then just buy some male 9006 connectors for your ballast end and it will snap right into the stock connector.

The square connector is for the turn signal bulb and the little bulb in the high beam housing. Both headlights have those so that will be the same. Main difference between the 2 units is that the HID set has the levelling motors, there are holes drilled through for the ballast to mount to, and the reflector bulb is different. Other than that the two headlight housings are exactly the same. They are both interchangeable on your car. Only problem with you running the HID headlights on your car is that the auto level will not work. Just aim the lights properly and you will be good to go.

Default so something like this?

after some search, I found this

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=8075524571

then cut off connector on the ballast use butt splices to connect the wires...

does this sound like a plan?

so the "whole sensor unit and control computer for the auto level system"

is not the headlight beam level control ecu indicated on the first page of the following doc?

That should be a easy fix, take it to the dealers body shop everything will be oem parts. The only thing about accidents or body damage is the damn paint matching after it's been repainted.

That's not an ecu. It's just a regular water bubble level indicator to help you "manually" aim the lights by hand.

The auto level system is something totally different. It aims your lights downwards when you hit a bump or rasies them upwards when you hit a dip. If your car did not originally come with HID's then you will not have the auto level system. No problem, just aim it by hand like the rest of us non-hid or retrofitted owners

Red face sorry, I am a stupid student... still confused...

I think what you refered to is on page one, the top drawing, and the component with the liquid and bubble is the beam angle gauge

What I was refering to is the bottom drawing with the component named head light beam level control ecu

the missing link for me is that if there is no external input from the sensor specific for the hid actuator (motor); then in theory the unit should be self suffcient? @_@

Sorry about all the questions... just that I am also in the process of learning... :-D

I had a similar hit on the RF of my car, check out my pictures. The total for my repair was almost 10K... The body shop did a GREAT job and looks better than before (i.e. I used to have rock chips in my bumber, yellowing headlights, etc)..

Take it to a repuatable body shop and if your not happy with the repair, take it up with them or the insurance company.

Good Luck
