The other day I drove from Lady Lake to West Palm (about 212m), around West Palm a few days, and then down to plantation. My low fuel light come on just over 300m on the way down. I drove all the way back (about 60m w/light on) and finally at about 377 I hit the gas station. After a long trip I don't shut down my cars for a few minutes, even while fueling. I grab the fual nozzle stick it in and start hearing this rumble, like loud bass. I loook around and noticed black smoke coming out of my exhaust. I just about ran out of gas in the station. Least now I know all highway w/AC on I got atleast 377 to go.

That's one thing I've enjoyed quite a bit going from my 99 GS400 to my 06 Audi.
I think the GS4 was like a 19.5 gallon tank - typical highway milage was ~22... if I saw the other side of the 400 mark I was cutting it seriously close since I didn't always get 22 either...
Then again my city milage wasn't much worse - only ~20.
This Audi averages 31.5 for me in the city and 38 on the highway.
I can theoretically see about 700 miles on my 18.5 gallon tank before it dies... but the most I've seen on the highway before filling up was 640 and in the city ~560 on a tank.

your 06 Audi is going to break down before our 98 GS's!

I might be more concerned with that if it wasn't a 2 year lease that's only got 12 months left will be out of my hands before it even hits 30k miles, much less runs out of warranty.
PS - since I sold my 99 GS w/ 75k miles to my best friend it has had far more issues than my Audi has had since he took ownership of my car and I started the lease of the Audi.. Not saying that's the norm, but you can't always assume (as you did above).
I get around 20mpg to my calculations. I dont have a navigation system, just wondering if anyone knows about an aftermarket product that would read out mpg, compass, things like that?
What's your opinion of Charlotte? How about compared w/ Atlanta. I going to Charlotte next Weds. to visit b/c I'm thinking about moving up there... Living in the middle of Uptown. I have not visited before but from everything I've read, Uptown is clean and awesome....
Btw, I got about 415-420 last weekend driving from Atlanta to Philadelphia, MS and back.
wow, I'm amazed. I never fill up before 400. The light will come on at 370 or so, but I don't pull over before 400. The most I have ever put in is 17.3 gallons, so I'm not even pushing it. I usually get between 24-25.5 MPG in my '99 GS400. BTW, it has over 186,000 miles on it.

Do you happen to have a check engine light on? With that kind of mileage on the car it's very likely the O2 sensors are starting to wear out (if they haven't already) and thus causing your car to run lean or just flat out run in closed loop mode (which is typically still lean).
I know I had a 95 Maxima w/ 100k miles on it that had a bad O2 sensor... and I knew it did, but I was getting some AWESOME milage (far better than the original factory rating - averaging over 30 in the city!) and so I decided just to not fix the sensor. The check engine light stayed on but it didn't cause any problems other than a slight hesitation during low RPM acceleration that I was fine with considering the economy benefits. lol
The check engine light has come on twice since I've owned it (purchased in August). Once because is said there was a problem with the MAF and last weekend it came on and said that the efficiency of the cat on the right was below normal. Both times I cleared the code and haven't had a problem since. If the light was on I would fix whatever I need to in order to make it shut off. That sorta stuff drives me crazy. I figured that my mileage was so good because I drive like my grandpa and I mostly drive on highways for 10-20 miles at a time without stopping. I live outside of Iowa City, IA where I have to drive 20 miles each way to work. The 25.5 comes when I travel to KC (4.5 hours), Omaha (3.5 hours), or Chicago (4 hours). My wife had one tank that was below 22, and it got 20 on that one. She was driving it around KC for a week.
