Smile GF Buying 99 GS 300 Please Help!!!!!!!

My girlfriend and I are looking into buying a GS 300 with 117,000 miles on it. It is in very decent shape and i want to know what i should look for mechanically, also if anyone has any ideas of how much services and parts would cost....... Thank You everyone!!!!!!!

Oh a couple of Specs......

FULLY FULLY Loaded with touch screen navigation and two owners only very very smooth drive when i test drove it............ I almost forgot they are asking $13000.00 for it and it is at a dealership.......

Will this car last us more than 5 years with its regular services?????

Timing belt, 90k service done. Make sure oil changes were done ever 5k. Was it serviced at Lexus? they can pull up its records. Carfax it as well.

Otherwise, this car is as stong as they come.

check for overspray under the car to see if it's been in an accident.

I think that's alot of money for a 99 300 with 117,000 miles. you could get a 400 with that mile/price range. now that you know you want a GS, keep looking. also, do yourself a favor and drive a GS400.

what he said, when in doubt and unsure spend a few bucks and bring it to a lexus dealership for a pre purchase inspection should cost you about 100-150 dollars and most buyers that are confident in what they are selling should'nt have a problem with that. Make sure to get as much service history as possible. But really the miles are nothing for the car as long as it was cared for. I'm on my 2nd Lexus and 30th plus car and my current GS4 has 170k plus and runs damm good, it's all in care and maintnence

While recently searching for a gs300 I had the lexus dealership do a pre buy inspection. It cost me a $99 and two hours of my time but was worth every dime because I then knew that this particular gs300 needed a lot of work. After the inspection, I decided that one wasn't for me.

Default Whoa!

IMO, never buy a used car with that many miles on it. It sure is a strong car. Mine's 1998 GS300 with 146K and haven't changed much but the lower ball joint, and rebuilted the starter. Thank God nothing more expensive. But a car with that many miles is at the starting point of changes and expensive maintenance. Plus it's just too many miles with a HIGH price tag! Regardless of what options it has. Your interior is prone to wear out as well....

Not sure if I agree with you John. For Arizona prices, where Jman is from, it seems pretty fair and I've been looking for the past several months since I plan on trading up to a GS4 and selling the GS3 (hmm- maybe I should sell him mine?? ). Since it is at a dealership, the price can probably be negotiated back down to anywhere between $11,500 to 12,250 but I heavily doubt the dealership bought it for less than that.

Using your logic, will you be selling your GS3 soon? You have almost 30,000 more miles than the car Jman listed and you have a proven example that it will go to 146k without many expensive maintenance items.

When you plan on selling it, how much do you plan on getting back? These GS3 engines are pretty well built and I can't imagine that the power they put out stresses the engine at all. I know that when I plan on selling my car (with almost the same miles), I can proudly say that it never had a problem other than normal maintenance like ball joints, tie rods, timing belt, spark plugs, etc and I plan on selling it with the Avic N1 and stereo for $13k.

I gotta find a GS4 first though!

Wow, I didn't know it holds that much of a value in AZ. I guess in Houston there are just too too many GS out there, so a trade-in of that many mileage would not be so high here. If I do plan on selling, I guess it's best to sale out of state. I probably won't do so though. So many memories with my car.

John, bring that car over here and it will fetch a bit more! From what I've seen, these cars consistently go for more in the west than anywhere in the east. Yes, you are clumped into the "East" category...

Case in point:

My dad's GS4 was purchased on several grand behind AZ book from Kentucky - he drove it back.

My buddy's GS4 was purchased 4-5k behind book from New Jersey - he too drove it back...
