I called my local dealer and asked them for a price on the front and rear passenger door lock actuators.

They quoted me:

$296.55 for the front (said it only came with the actuator and lock assembly?)

$128.29 for the rear (actuator only)

Does this sound right?

I would be in for a front passenger actuator as well (if the price is good). Sounds like it's a VERY common problem and it's too bad Lexus doesn't recall this!

Default Door Actuators

So how does one know if he needs front or rear or drivers or passenger side?

Mine works part of the time and I only use the drivers door so what should I do to figure out what I need?

I was sure hoping there was only one

Ivan,

Each door his its own actuator that controls the electronic locking/unlocking of the door. If your other doors are locking/unlocking when you use the drivers lock/keyfob then you will probably only need to replace your drivers one.

Hope this helps,
Jonny

Hey thanks, yes they do work but like I said it has become sporadic.

Default actuator

My drivers door had the failure yesterday. Took apart the door to see if could fix it. Yes a DIY'er can disassemble and reassemble to door, but OMG it is not easy. If you are a casual DIY'r you might thing twice about this. As for the price of the part, I will call Lexus today for that. I checked out the acutator and the coil is open on mine so it can't be repaired. I will post a detailed description of the door disassemble if any body wants. No pictures........no camera!

i think you need a special star looking socket (torx?) to take this unit off the door.

someone needs to do a write up on this. it may be a different procedure for the front and rear doors.

The special socket is a torx. I don't remember the number.

Default Look here!!!!!

I've had this problem on both of the passenger front and rear doors. I can get these parts as follow:

Front: $230+shipping
Rear: $240+shipping

No shipping charges in Houston if you pick it up locally.

The rear ones costs more for some particular reason. You can ask the details with the dealer on that. I can also install these for you for $50/door if you're willing to come to Houston. Just PM me. Thanks.

Yeah...mine are acting up as well..have been for a couple years now. Get's worse when it's very hot. Funny thing is sometimes they work and sometimes they don't...operation latency and temperature all seem to factor in the malfunctioning equation. So I'm using the Mexican (Manuel) manual door locks. $240 a pop is waaaayyy too much for a lock. This should be covered (recall) by Toyota...IMHO.

I agree with you, but call around and you'll probably only get higher quotes. I just called Lexus in Houston and got quoted fronts: $291.01 and rears: $289.25. The most frustrating thing is that if you don't change it, eventually it will go out completely and you won't be able to lock your car remotely. You'll have to walk all around to the passenger rear side to just lock your car. I've been there and it sucks! Especially during the rain. Like someone said in this post that it's a wear and tear part. It's prone to go out but unlucky for me mine's went out one week after another. It's worth that much. We pay for what we drive.
