Yo ted,
Wassup bro?
Stick with premium....I tried regular for about a 2-3 weeks....then i had problems....the car started to knock...I had intermitent loss of power which felt like the engine was misfiring. I put in a couple bottles of fuel injector cleaners and went back to premium....and that fixed it.
Its not worth the trouble...pay the few extra cents for premium.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
You are all very knowledgeable and I appreciate your insight.
I am convinced and will now continue with the Shell 93 octane V-Power.
I have one station that at least for now is charging $2.89 for 87 and $3.09 for 93. This is Shell.
I have been told to use V-Power by Shell.
Is this the best?
My car is a '99 and I'm getting aroun 20 miles to a gallon. I bought it new but haven't driven it too much - car only has 48,000 miles.
Weather here has been nice and I want to drive it but the Lexus get worse mileage than my Camry which is a 4 cylinder getting me on average 26-27 miles hwy/city;
Peace,
Ted

I pay $3.29 for 92 Octane.....Ahhhh.... the price of paradise.
I'd stick with Shell Vpower for that price. Have you tried Chevron with techron....suppose to be good too.
As for mileage...yah...i get 20 mpg too.
Pete
You might want to also try cleaning your MAF. Maybe it was just my imagination, but it seemed to make it smoother and I noticed a liiiiiittle improvement in gas mileage. Just pop it off and clean it w/ a cue tip and some rubbing alcohol (my mechanic bro-in-law showed me).
This is the price we pay for having a high end car. I don't really even think about putting in the top grade gas, it's kinda routine. The prices do sux, but I can't even think about feeding my car a crackhead diet. To be blunt this motor requires 90+ oct. Even if u don't drive hard, there will be that one time u need to accelerate and you will be glad you didn't settle for the cheap crap. In the long run, bite the bullet and pay up. I'm sure we can find other area's in our budget's to take from
In short save 87 for the beaters.

i used to buy 55-gallon drums of race fuel back before i got my lexus (used to build eclipses), and i was getting some really great prices per gallon. might start doing this again, but just getting 93 octane
You dont have to use premium. I dont, I use 89 octane. I used 87 for awhile, just to see how it was, didnt seem much different, but I should have checked my plugs. California's ****ty 91 is not much better anyway. Besides, I just use my lexus as a commuter car, rarely do I romp on the gas pedal.
So 2 octane is gonna blow up your motor your naturally aspirated motor? Yea right. Mess with turbo cars, you'll know NA motors rarely grenade from low octane.

You are right. You're paying a premium for premium in paradise!
Your car is looking MIGHTY SHARP by the way. Keep up the good work.
CONGRATS ON THE MODERATOR GIG, you've earned it!
