Whats up guys! I am new to the forums and just got a 2003 Lexus GS 300 with 15K miles on it last Saturday. I love the car, and its in brand new condition. I could not be happier. Your going to have to pardon some of my dumb questions because I am not used to Japanese cars. My last car was a Mustang Cobra, so this is a totally different beast for me. Anyway, I do have some questions I could use your help with. I have a few plans for the car, but want to keep it simple. I will not be touching the engine because its a Certified car, and frankly I got all the HP I wanted out of the Cobra when I had it. I want to get rims for my Lexus but I don't want my ride to suffer to much. Is there any real difference in ride quality between 19s and 20s? What do you guys do to lower the car? Do you needs springs, shocks, struts etc...? What are the best aftermarket navigation options for our cars? I would like to something that could sit flush in the dash like the stock navigation on the GS430. How about HIDs? Where can I find a good kit, and what do you guys recommend? I would really appreciate some help here guys. Thanks alot, and I hope to be talking to you all soon.
For parts try some of the sponsors like Carson Toyota at l-tuneparts.com
A lot of the things that you are looking for can be found by searching, it has helped me a whole lot since i have been on here. Good luck!
congrats on your purchase, and welcome to the family. Im sure one of our senior members will chime in with some helpful links to address some if not all of your questions. For lowering your car, you can either go for lowering springs or coilovers...most of us lean towards coilovers but it really depends on your budget. Anyway, enjoy modding the new ride...it gets very addictive, especially once you start seeing all of the nice GS's on here.
Well you could do the fat-setup on 19's and it will ride like its on 18's.
For lowering, you could either to coilovers or S/S. Most ppl say the Tein CS coilover system is the best, with its adjustable dampening, height control, and closest to stock ride. Other's mainly have the L-tuned Springs and Shocks. Since L-tuned doesnt make the shocks (or springs?) anymore, KYB makes the other set (they are both the same kyb makes the springs for l-tuned).
Best aftermarket navs? well i personally love the Pioneer Avic-D1, but the Z1 is coming out shortly and that will soon make the D1 outdated (and maybe a bargain at the same time). Eclipse also makes a in-dash nav system as well (Eclipse AVN-5435 .... there's also a new one, im not quite sure what number its now). You can find the double-din dash kit from l-tunesparts to replace your existing head unit area, and adapt it to the double-din dash style.
For HID's, I'd recommend the Philips kit from xenondepot.com. They make both the 4300k and 6000k HID, utlizing philips ultitron components. They also make the 3000k kit for the fogs as well.
