hydroplaning at 60 mph?
I recently upgraded to 245/35/zr 19's in the front and 275/30/zr 19 in the rear. Recently I have been caught in the rain a couple of times, farily heavy rain. As i approach 56mph to 60mph the steering starts to vibrate, and it gets more violent the faster i go. I have owned several vehicles and have never experienced this before, any guesses. This is on a GS400. I don't think itr is the tires, I'm presently on Perelli P-0's and I had the same problems on Michelin Pilots.
lydon,
P-Zero's are not really a wet weather tire, you will have a tendency to experience hydroplaning at that speed. Also, it depends on the road condition, i.e. if like in NY you have huge ruts grooved into the pavement from all of the heavy busses and trucks, water will tend to pool and will be deeper than you'd expect for the time it has been raining. I have Pirelli P7000 Supersports, and I noticed that up to 60mph I am okay, but beyond that in heavy rain I will hydroplane quite a bit.
Remeber everyone - let's be careful out there.
