Default Help with power steering pump

Guys,

I guess today I blew my power steering pump. I am pretty sure that is what this is that is leaking but I wanted to verify before I drop $340 on a new one

Check out the pics and tell me what you think. It was really hard to take the pictures so bear with me.

Default p/s pump

I actually purchased one today (used). Mine is leaking too. It is actually not too difficult to rebuild it yourself, but the one that I found costed me almost the same as the seal kit.

Yes, it is not coming from and rubber lines or hoses. It is coming from a metal thing - I am guessing the PS pump.

This is another risk of over tightening of the supercharger belt. You stand a chance of wearing out the bearing on the PS pump.

I could be wrong, but then why else would this happen?

Either way.

Sorry Jonny.

Hey man,

Well when we were removing the supercharger and bracket we found that one of the PS hoses was badly kinked. I think this was responsible for seizing the pump, or at least had a lot to do with it. This sucks!! This car has been on the road for about 1 day in close to 6 months

Sorry to here about this Jonny. A damn hose caused this crap Did you use silicone hoses, or the stock rubber ones? Silicone hoses are less prone to crimp up.

Johnny-

Be cautious as the leakage can cause your alternator to fail from the fluid leak. Happened to me and I had to get both replaced.

Good luck-

Hey man,

It was a thick high pressure hose that actually got crimped - which is surprising because the hose is so tough. I just had LexusFTW over here who is one of my mechanics these days Anyway, he thinks it is just a gasket that is the problem. It is a weird 2 prong metal gasket that is $3.69!! I will be a happy guy if that is all it is causing the problems - althought the way things are going right now I doubt it

Thanks dawg,
jonny

D,

Yeah, I was worried about this. Any ideas how to stop this from ruining my alternator - cuz alternators are not the easiest thing in the world to replace!!

Hmm, what do you think? Thanks for everything man.

Good stuff to know. After it's all repaired, let us know what the true problems were and the fix.

A kinked hose makes sense and really sucks at the same time.

Did the leak come from the bearing wearing out and as a result of no oil? Also maybe the hose is so thick that a small bend will cause a kink inside. Seems like a smaller more flexible hose would be more suitable?

LOL. OK, here goes. Drive car to mechanic. Say "Hey, fix my pump fool." Throw him the keys and go home. Return 2 days later, give him a rectangular piece of plastic with numbers and "Visa" written on it. Drive home.

Let me know if you need pictures
