Default bad cats

mods please leave here for a few days for max exposure thank you

folks this is for all those who have a late 98 model and up gs , if you drive somewgat aggressively and have less then 80k miles on your car have your cat convertors checked

i was hearing a faint rattle under my car for a few weeks and decidied to get underneath there and have someone rev the car .. i checked the entire exaust system , hangers and sheilds and nothing was loose well the rattle started to now sound like rocks in the system .. took it in to my dealer seeing that i know lexus covers emmissions for 8 years or 80k miles and had my guys use there listening device and sure eneough both of my cat are breaking apart.. these cats are around 700 a piece plus 2 hrs min labor to change

mine is covered under the warranty for i just turned 75k , have yours checked if you are within warranty period and save yourselves at least 1200+ for having to pay , if you hear even the slightlest rattle or rock like rumbling within the system demand it be changed under emissions warranty

Very interesting. I had the Cats on my 02 rav4 replaced under warranty not to long ago and it only has 20k on it.. The check engine light came on and the truck felt lethargic. They told me it would be a 1200.00 job, but it is covered under warranty. They told me to carbon buld up caused the cats to go bad. Never did the emissions cleaning on the Rav until after the fix. I do it religiously with the GS to prevent cat problems. Yeah guys need to be on top of the emissions cleaning. Get it done every 10k. My GS is beyond the 80k warranty but she runs good thank GOD.

Default Cat!

Ed, I thought you were going to tell us that a real cat had destroyed something under your car! Good looking out! I'm still in the warranty period with just 65,000 miles!-wringo

Before I put on my Tanabe catback system, I didn't hear any rattling. I guess the Tanabe will save my stock cat some life once I put those back on to sell. Currently at 89k miles.

okay folks had the cats swapped out on tuesday , they were destroyed , the honeycombs on the inside broke apart and were moving around

bill was 2500 to replace both cats but praise god mine was still under emmissions warr

to those who are under the 8year and /or 80k mark have your cats looked at and listened to for again changing them is a major hit to the pocket

Damn $2500, wonder why they went so quick? My old LS had 200k and 10 years old with original cats when I sold it.

Nobody should pay $2500 for new cats....if I was to pay out of pocket, definately get some aftermarket ones and just have a shop weld them on.
