I know it's rare, but even Lexus cars can have weird probs.

Wow.. Well I have 96k so far and no diff problems thank GOD.. Well I have all synthetics, just a little insurance from wear and tear. Tranny, engine, differential power steering all with the liquid gold inside

honestly, I think mine was probably bad right from the factory and the lady that had the car before me probably never noticed it. It took me a few weeks of owning the car to notice it. the car would make a humming sound when you let of the gas around 60mph.

I took the tech for a ride and he heard it, put the car on lift and came back in 3 minutes and said I was getting a new rear end and axle. That tech has been the only guy I let touch my car since.

now I wish I would have begged them to order a supra diff instead, I doubt they would've though.

this is just a suggestion... http:www.auto-rx.com

we unfortunate rx300 owners with oil sludge problems use this stuff and it works. it is also used for transmission and differential leaks as well. it might be of consideration to you?

The differential has a fill plug on the cover that faces the rear of the car. On all cars I have ever worked on, you add oil until it reaches the fill hole level and just starts to overflow. Then you put the plug back on.

What part number is this spacer/sleeve?

I'm about to order this pinion seal 'cause clearly my diff is leaking from the main seal area.

Do I need the spacer/sleeve also and if so, what part do I order?

Take a look at the diagram. All of the parts for the diff are listed if you need anything else

For 1999 Lexus GS400 (in California), what's the best conventional (non-synthetic) differential gear oil to use ?

1999 Lexus GS400 Owner's Manual says...
======================================
Hypoid gear oil API GL–5
Above –18_C (0_F): SAE 90
Below –18_C (0_F): SAE 80W or SAE 80W–90
======================================

- Lucas LUC10043 Oil SAE 80W-90 Heavy Duty Gear Oil - 1 Quart
- Castrol Axle Limited Slip Gear Oil - 80W-90 - 1 Liter 12612
- Other ?

75W-90 or 80W-90. I'm gonna use 75W-90. I don't think the brand really matters if the specs are correct..

I have a 2007 IS250....Shop just told me they have to remove the axle in order to re-seal the differential and stop a leak. $1800. I find this hard to believe...Any ideas?
