Default Strange rattling???

Wandering if anyone else ever had this:

Theres a strange rattling sound, coming from either behind the radio or dashboard. Sounds like either some plastic part is loose or theres something rattling under the hood. Usually happens when I'm warming up my car or when the engine is idiling... The sound is much lower when the car is already warmed up and I switch it to drive.

One of my friends had a similar problem on his Mustang, all he had to do was change his pcv valve.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

Yep I've encountered that same problem and I've noticed it only happens when it's really cold. Once the car was warmed up and I'd been driving it for 15 minutes or so it went away. I think it may be one of those things I may just have to live with.

Crap, there was just a post on this a few weeks ago. I've got the same thing, but it doesn't really bother me and it completely goes away after 2-3 minutes. I think it has something to do with a tube vibrating against the firewall (maybe the heater core). Does anyone remember the thread I'm thinking of? The fix is fairly simple. Anyone????

this is very ironic as i have the same problem.. i took it to the dealer and the mechanic guy told me it was the A/C servo which is a mechanism duct that changes the mode from a/c to heater modes.. my car is not in the cold so i know its not a problem with weather or whatnot.. luckily the a/c servo is stuck in the a/c position so my a/c works just fine.. its just that everytime i turn the ignition, that buzzing noise comes on and stays on for about 30 seconds and goes away.. the repair is said to be about 600 bucks for those without extended warranty. thus, ill just have to live with it as it is pretty minor..

Do you hear the noise more when the abs pump resets?

Lexoos and I found out it was a pipe that runs along the abs pump that was rattling in the bracket that holds it up against the frame.

I have pictures of the location. Problem was solved a few months back and has never returned.

I can't post up, so I'm willing to send it as email.

BTW: It was never the heater core pipes as initially thought.

I had a dash rattle that drove me crazy for weeks. It turned out to be the ash tray. I took it out and added a layer of 3M Anti-Squeak tape and reinstalled it. No more rattle.
