Strange Noise
i have a 2001 gs300....and recently it started to make a strange loud annoying noise at start-up...although it only lasts for about 30 seconds...but it is just annoying when you're on a date or something...it just ruins the game...know what i mean?...i would have to explain to them why there's a strange noise when i start my car and blah blah blah...so i took it to a shop two weeks ago...and i asked a mechanic to check it out...and he said the noise is caused by the levering system...say what?!..
..anyhow..so i asked him is it major...he said no and it's normal and common for high end luxury cars...especially with high mileage...60k is high?...and if i wanna fix it..then it would cost me a couple bills easily...so i dont know...what do you guys think?...would it be worth it to get it fixed?...or just live with the noise?...and also...does any of you guys have the same problem!??!

Wow....what a coincidence....i got the same problem....just started to act up yesterday.....and did it again today at start up.....sound coming from behind the center dash area or upper middle part of the engine bay (the only thing that i can compare this to is the sound from my 2nd gen Integra...it does the same thing...mostly at startup).....nothing to do with the a/c vents or radio imo.....really loud....lasts about 15-20 seconds....weird....i got 50K+....also a 2001 GS300.
Anybody got a clue whats wrong?

Guys....its NOT a squealing noise....nothing to do with the timing or serpentine belt....it sounds like a self testing mechanism inside the dash area....really loud too.

yeah...i read the linked thread...i definitely think it's not the timing belt problem...i agree with pete...i wish someone would know more about the levering system...i mean...i trust the mechanic that i talked to...he seems knowledgable...

hey pete...wow...your noise sounds way more worse than mine...mine doesn't have interruptions at all...it's a continuous buzzing...similar to your sound...but much smoother and not as loud...imma try tomorrow to see if it makes noise when i turn to ON...or when i start the engine...i'll update soon....
p.s. and mine doesn't have baby sound either..ahah..just joking...cute kid

interesting....well...almost 5 years later and that noise is gone for good!!...i didn't do anything to it.....i dont' know when it stopped whining...but it did...now that i reviewed my past posts...i realize that it's gone...that's awesome!!..ahah...

i have the same problem, went to STS. The one mechanic is not 100% sure but he thinks it may be my ABS pump, but he said to wait until later because this part with labor could be like 2500. Atleast he was honest saying hes not sure, I read it could also be the serpentine belt, but I dunno. My sound is a crazy high pitch rythmic sound behind the dash......I'm going to take it somewhere else for a second opinion. Only happens when i first start the car in the morining and goes away after like 30 seconds, but now my check engine light is on, so maybe that will help troubleshoot or add to my list of pains.....
glad it worked itself out. i think after 5 years i woulda gone crazy
