Default trouble after changing timing belt

I just got my timing belt replaced and now the car has a bad shake at idle. No noise from the engine just a shake. Any suggestions on what is wrong.

Or if you did it yourself, then get it to a shop to have it redone. I think the timing was off.

I never left the shop. When I was looking around the engine bay I noticed that the maf sensor was a bit loose. It is missing the gasket. Can this cause the shaking?

yes if the gasket is missing then it can suck air in through the MAF sensor, if this happens the maf would not sense all the air and would give you an incorrect mix. But you would probably get a CEL at some point indicating a system to lean or something.

Just go to autozone or advance autoparts in the AM and have them read the code, this should point you in the right direction

Shouldn't my mechanic be able to read the error codes?

Didn't pay him yet, I am worried that he may have damaged my engine and trying to cover it up because he keeps telling me that the car will be ready tomorrow, then that turned into the next day....

I'm sure your guy has a scanner..... Have him scan the code.

not saying you were wrong in not taking it to a dealer, but by taking it to a dealer you have a lot more recourse if anything goes wrong..

If anything goes wrong then I would assume that this shop is responsible for the repairs. How big of a problem can not installing the timing belt correctly cause? Can it be off slightly and not cause damage?
