i was also quoting in usd

if the gs300 does do regular gas, then the cheaper prices/fuel economy factor may be more important.

which year did the gs start having side curtain airbags? or am i just dreaming? our 99 gs400 does not have it, but i recall the 01 gs430 i test drove had a srs logo on the inside a-pillar... that might mean the 02 gs300 would have that if safety is important. otherwise... i can't think of anything else against an older gs400.

All of our vehicles will run on Regular Unleaded. Try it for yourself and see if you're pleased with the results. Be sure to know your Average Gasoline consumption prior to the switchover and after.

my owner's manual for my gs400 says "regular fuel only in emergencies"... i tried a full tank of 89 once and it pinged like hell and i've been too scared to go back

going off topic... sorry for the thread hijack.

Though I run my LX470 and GS400 on premium, I have used mid-grade gas 89 octane in my SC400 for many years and probably 150,000 miles (car now has 343,000 miles) without any loss of mileage or encountering any knock. Its only about a dime a gallon difference, but thats $2.00 every fill-up.

Assumming both cars are in great mechanical condition, go for the 400 and use the 7K for mods like TC, 3.76lsd, and suspension drop or just keep the 7k in you pocket. The downside to the 300 is lack of power. As for mpg, expect about 1 to 2 mpg better with a 300. I had a 2000 gs300 and got wooped one too many times by honda accord v-6's. Traded it in for the 430 .... enough said

I know we're getting off topic here, and maybe I should start a new thread, but I filled up at Costco yesterday and they were out of premium 93 octane so I had no choice but to fill up with regular 87 octane. If anything, my car feels a little more responsive. So you've been running 89 with no problems, huh? I was thinking of switching to that, but I figured for the extra dime, I may as well fill up with the 93 (which is exactly what the gas companies want you to do, I guess).
