Question

Who has done, or does anyone know of any pages, that depict a radar detector being mounted behind the front grill and / or on the rear deck with a hidden display?

I want to go the ultra clean install route, (looks good, plus less attention from the thugs) without the box on the windshield, and still have the hidden display.

OOO, I just thought about rain

Anybody?

TIA - Good Night

Dex,

For the cleanest and most stealth install, try http://www.k40.com/K40Radar/CustomRemote.htm

They sell and install the K40 at NC Lexus dealers (including both Hendrick and Flow) as well as stereo stores like Freemans. I have one of the Sonaradar undetectable ones in mine (was already installed when I bought it), but I also have a Valentine One hardwired to the mirror power.

The V1 is by far the best detector I've ever had, including the K40 which is supposedly pretty good (I can run them concurrently).

I'd rather live with the ugly box and save all that insurance money.

Dexter,

these guys do alot of the really hardcore installs for Lexus of Manhattan, they are pricey, but this guy knows how to put an impressive package together.

One of the reasons I've mounted my Passport on the windshield vs. going for the cleaner look of a body-mount installation is that every review I've read says that the hidden detectors, including the K40, aren't as effective as the windshield mounts - although the K40 was ranked as one of the best body mounts.

If I recall, they've been in general agreement that the lower mounting positon of the hidden detectors (and the interference caused by the grills they were mounted behind) put them at a disadvantage in signal recognition.

Any comments?

I just want a radar detector that's good and effective and doesn't stick TO THE FREAKIN WINDSHIELD! It's too obvious.

Some radar detectors have radar gun detector detectors and actually turn off when hit. I think its called VG2.

Don't waste your money on the K40 and invest in the V-1. www.ebay.com

The guy selling this V-1, actually took it apart and swapped the red LED's to multi-color ones. I'm thinking about doing it to mine too. (Waiting for a Dex DIY).

Radar detectors are legal in CA.

As for optimum placement for the detector: I have mine way up top of the window just left of the rear view mirror. Allows me to mute fake signals and still has a clear path to the rear of the car.
