2nd to 3rd gear hesitation / hard shift when cold...

Many have asked if their GS is defective when they detect a hesitation and 'hard' shift from 2nd to 3rd. As I have posted a couple of times, I've heard this is by design to warm the engine up more quickly and lower emissions. Personally I know this only happens as I drive away down my street in the mornings, when the engine is cold.
Anyway, I wanted to pass this little test along, in case others are worried about it... the other day I wanted to check my oil level, but as usual I hadn't driven the car when deciding to do this (I understand it's best not to check the level when the engine is completely cold), so I started the engine and let the car idle for a minute or so, then I revved it (in park) a couple of times, let it idle some more (maybe 2-3 minutes), and then shut it off. I checked the oil (fine) and shortly thereafter I went out in the car. Voila, no hard shift from 2nd to 3rd on my street (the first time it hadn't done it when leaving the first time in a day), and I realized it's because the engine was already warmed up! Check it out yourself if you're still concerned.

How long does the hard shifting usually last?
Hello I have a 2005 Lexus gs300 with 12tk miles that I recently bought back in may and it also has been showing signs of this delayed/hard shifting. My question is how long does this usually last for? I warm up my car all the time to the first line on the temp gauge. It takes me abut 5 minutes to get to the on ramp for the freeway. And when I press on the gas to take off a bit faster it's shifted hard there. That's about 5 minutes after warm up. It's also done it like 10 minutes after driving since I only get on the freeway for about 5 more minutes. The only time it's done it on me is when I make a turn. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

@Bhubb18 yes that's exactly what I'm Redfern to. Anyone else notice a little kick in 2nd gear when the engine is up to temperature? Seems like if I accelerate harder I can feel the kick or lag more.

No, factory is a delayed 2-3 shift, nothing more, the idea is to get the engine rpm a tad higher for a short time to help engine warming.
It shouldn't be annoying or harsh at all (mine sometimes has a very small rpm flare, but very little). It usually does it for me in the subdivision, and once I hit 2=>3 shift (GS400 that is 25 mph) anything else isn't even noticed
