Default A/T Shift problem?

I have an 06 IS350 and have recently noticed an issue with the transmssion. I can best describe it as an RPM increase when an upshift is expected. Basically the RPMs go up, but no shift.

Noticed just at low speeds, when the engine is cold. Also seems to have started after the camshaft grinding issue was fixed by the issue. This is when in 'auto' mode (not manual shift)

Anybody else with this issue? I wonder if the tech f'd up a connection when putting the engine back together after the cam gear fix?

Cheers

My car acts a bit funky when the engine is cold on a cold day. Usually in 5th gear when it is holding off shifting to 6th until the engine is warmer. Once the engine is warmed up it acts fine. I just chalk it up to the cold weather and cold engine messing with the safety settings in the computer.

isn't this supposed to be normal? I think the engine needs more revolutions per minute to heat up? I dunno..just a thought..

I feel like a mechanical hypochondriac but after the camshaft issue if I reverse the car step on the brakes and shift to drive and press the gas pedal there is a lag and a slight kick into drive like the transmission is slipping another time I sped up the rpm's seem to go faster but not the speed. I hope it just me. I got another year of warranty so I am only slightly worried.

Sounds to me like you were trying to launch the car, young man.

Just kidding.

if the RPM is going up and the trans is hesitating the shift, its called gear slippage, very very common in hondas automatic transmissions...

I think it depends on how aggressive you are driving. For example if I am trying to overtake someone on the freeway. The RPMs will hold and shift near red line. It is also normal for the IS to not to go past Gear 5 when the engine is cold. The IS is sluggish when the engine is cold.

Sluggish? How cold are we talking? I find that the engine in my car is actually more responsive before it's fully warmed up.

As cold as the engine can get overnight without freezing temps. You need to test what you are saying. Engines run better and more efficiently when they are warm, granted that they aren't too hot. Run a quarter mile on a cold engine and then run a quarter mile when the engine is warmed up.

Uh, sorry but what the heck are you talking about? Heat kills power, why do you think people put fans infront of dynos? to keep the engine cool and get a better reading from a cooler motor. i know from 1st hand experience, my rsx motor made 228.9whp after many dyno runs (while being tuned) and when we cooled down the motor, it jumped from 228.9 to over 233.x..cooler motor = better/higher power. same w/ a cold air intake, more cold air into the motor, better it responds. thats why its important to keep the motor as cool as you can during normal and track driving...it just responds better and makes better numbers

You're a bit confused on this issue...

cold -air- is great. Not because it's cold per se though- because it contains more oxygen per volume compared to hot air.

cold -engine- is bad. Your combustion chamber should be hot. As hot as possible without detonation.

Here's a nice thread on why a cold running engine is a bad idea-
https://www.clublexus.com/forums/per...iator-cap.html

People put fans in front of dynos because
1) They think it provides higher flowing, cooler, AIR for the intake.

2) The stock vehicle cooling system isn't designed for you to run at WOT all the time- so they're trying to help it out since you'll be doing your dyno pulls at WOT.

Well yeah i know that running a cold motor is bad in ways but i'm saying running a cooler motor is better for performance vs a heated one, thats what i'm trying to say

Reset the ECU and see if that resolves it.
