Unhappy Broken Pass. Side Mirror. Shell. Questions...

Hey guys,

Been lurking around the forums for a year now, haven't done anything to my car or have the money too. Just a simple white 98 GS300. I wanted to do a lot of things of course, right? Well college and the loans that come with them are diverting me elsewhere....

Well I had a little hickup backing out of a friends driveway and on the right/passenger side hit a gate flange which broke the shell and mirror, the motor on the inside looks to be not damaged at all.

Well I have been searching around in junkyards and seems the going price is 200-250 for that mirror assembly.

I have done some searching and it seems the Mercedes style mirrors are becoming more popular, well most of these are covers that surround the entire side mirror. If the casing/shell is not there will this cover still work?

How much would it be to paint one of these mirrors to match my white?

Are there any alternatives to what I should do to replace this mirror shell/casing, especially cheap alternatives?

To get it from Sewell I got a quote of 475 dollars. Which is money I don't even have...

Hello and Thank You,

Chris

Your best bet is to buy salvaged parts.

Another alternative is to buy blinker covers from ebay....gonna run you about $350 tho....then u need to paint them....probably another $80-100....so at most $450 un-installed. Just hope they fit well.

Good luck.

Save up and get a new one already painted from Steve or another dealership.

2nd is go to a salvage yard and pray that you find one in decent shape and paint that matches yoru car.

Chris....it wont matter. All you need is the shell. This thing dont have memory.....thus the price is very affordable. Everything else will be from your current side mirror...the wires, connectors, motor, mirrors, etc.... Basically, your doing a shell swap.

been searching for a while.

Do you know if this is a compatiable with the 98 model? I know that they didn't really change anything but I'm sure I remember calling a salvage yard somewhere and they said 98-02. Thought I'll ask yall. Also anyone know what 11 wired plug is the one with memory or not?

If I get it I'll still have to add roughly 50 or so bucks to paint it right?

Thanks,

Chris

FYI.....

98-00 (1-piece) vs. 01-05 (2-piece) side mirrors are different in shape and mounting points of the motor (behind the mirror) to the shell.

With that being said....if you can find a whole unit....whatever year (98-05)....in working order with memory feature....its a direct plug in....same socket and wire positions.

Good luck.
