Default Question: Tranny Fluid

Fellas:

My GS has 43,000 miles on it and is a '99 GS3.

Tranny Fluid has never been changed.

Should I do a complete tranny fluid flush or just a drain and re-fill?

Is Max-Life Tranny Fluid OK?

BTW< I have had some issues with performance where the car takes forever to get up to speed (50-60mph), might this have anything to do with Tranny Fluid?
I have checked most other known culprits - MAF Sensor, TPS, vacuum leaks etc.

Ted

yeah most of the time you can just do drain and fill. unless you are **** as some of us (including me) who pays a lot more for a full flush

Far as I know the only T-IV replacement fluids are Amsoil and Mobil, and they're synthetic. There's another recent thread on this floating around.....

Definitely get TOYOTA Type IV "Red"

SAVE big money got to the Toyota Dealer and have them dot it.

1. You'll get the same fluid as the Lexus Dealership
2. The procedure will still be in the Lexus/Toyota Service Database.

Default Toyota Fluid Is Excellent

Yes it is good stuff, BUT you still have to change it regularly. It does get dark because the transmission gets hot.

I went from TOYOTA to AMSOIL UNIVERSAL TRANSMISSION FLUID AND a HAYDEN TRANSMISSION COOLER. My transmission runs a lot cooler, with no loss of performance. It also stays cleaner longer than TOYOTA fluid.

YOUR CHOICE

hmm.. i was under the impression that the T-IV was the only optimal one to change tranny fluid. I think i will need to do that on my GS... it's heading on 6 yrs old... havent had a tranny change since 3 yrs.

Ted,

Read this thread (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=158500). It discusses pretty much everything you need to know about drain/refills and fluids.
