Default What oil are you guys using for your GS 400's

I did a search and only found people changing there oil and how easy it was.... What type should I get and can I change it myself.........I changed my mustang all the time and used Mobil 1 full synthetic.....But this is a Lexus and i want to put good oil in it...... 6qts. right? I heard that you have to take off a pan to get to the drain plug? and what about this gasket thing i read someone say about? I want to do this soon.... Thanks for the help.....tmf

Last time I used royal purple synthetic. It's pricey. All previous changes I used Mobil-1...5 quarts does the job. Replace oil filter every time..use Toyota brand. Get a new gasket for the drain plug when you get the filter. You'll have to remove the skid plate to access the filter and drain plug...there's about a dozen screws to remove..easy job.

Have you read the owners manual...I think it's got the info your looking for.

But I use light weight oil in winter...5w and use heavy weight oil in summer...upto 20w.
My drain...including oil filter...always equals out to 5 quarts. Measures between the marks on the dip stick after filling 5 quarts.

I use Mobil 1, prob good enough. Royal Purple may be better, but I can't get it as cheaply. Any synthetic oil is good too, changing your oil on time matters most. On my '99 GS, you can get to the oil drain plug directly, but need to fold down a portion of the skid plate to get to the filter. May depend on which model year you have, I haven't checked the newer ones.

Use the search function for more information, this is a heavily discussed topic, there's a ton of info on oil and filters.

I use Mobil 1 for all my vehicles. Remove a few of the bolts at the end of the plastic cover will allow easy access to the oil filter.
Thanks to bananags, here is his DIY link:

I use Mobil One, but let the dealer do the change.

tmf, said you searched on what oil to use? Couldn't tell from your original post if you found something or not... lots of discussion on this topic in the past.

Yea I was thinking of doing the change myself as well. I am very technically inclined, just got sort of lazy over the past year. Where can I get the plug gasket.

I used to use Mobil 1 but now use AMSOIL Series 2000 0-30 wt. and AMSOIL SDF57or 34 filters.
