Default Can tinted windows cause problems with nav?

I am buying a GS300 and the seller says that the navigation system is a little off when showing car’s location. The car is on warranty and the dealer says that it is caused by tinted widows (the tint has a chrome like reflection). Is this a possible cause? I see lots of cars with nav and tinted windows and none is complaining.

Thanks in advance

yes, tint CAN screw up your GSP signal. You want to avoid tints with any kind of titanium in them.

i am still a bit confused by these. apparently someone put on metallic tint before and nav got affected?

i have metallic tint on my sc430 and is300, both all around except front windshield. i have had zero problem with the nav though, always accurate, always exact pinpoint

In a word yes, but there are probably other factors such as weather, trees, your location etc....but metallic tint can affect your GPS signal, I have experienced it.

Yes, many people have reported that problem... most have stripped off the tint and put a different type on.

Anyone heard of the new ceramic tint? My brother in law is putting that on since many cars nowdays used rear window antennas. Apparently it doesn't affect the signal. Also, it isn't real refective like metal tint, but it is a bit more so than regular smoke tint.

thank you guys.

I was just wondering if I could just cut out a piece tint where the sensor is ( I do not know where it is or if one exists at all) and save the whole thing. Thanks again.

My nav reception was slightly weakened by putting on tint (and it's a good quality tint - FormulaOne) but no problem in 99% of driving.

I actually had the installed cut a small piece out where I *believed* the nav antenna was on the back glass on my 2000 GS400, but I think that's actually the AM antenna.
