So I completed this mod on my 2001 gs430 and one thing I noticed is that the my T10 bulbs inside the high beam housing turn on when I apply my brakes. My question is if this is normal or if anyone has experienced this after bypassing the drl?

Thanks.

I like that feature but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't harming any of the electrical system in the car.
Thanks for the reply.

^ not sure I'm following you. It's a feature that is now on virtually every car including high end luxury models

^ agree. and to me, a "Feature" is something you have control over. If i want to turn on a lightswitch, let that be my decision, not the factory default all the time

Adds to the look in my opinion. But I'm a huge advocate of "to each their own."

What gauge wire did you use Seven?

I also found this little kit which gives you nice fuse style connections.

sorry for bringing an old thread back to life....

Can anyone comment on the longevity of this mod?

I did a similar mod on my old IS and it melted the wire after a few months.

I've also noticed the link is no longer active on "BananaGS" DIY page...

http://bananags.grantham-international.com/

any help is appreciated...

Just bringing this thread back from the dead. Big thanks to the original person who posted this.
Worked like a charm. Took maybe 2-3 minutes.

I'm surprised that NO ONE ever said anything about this. That happened to me to. I didn't even know this happened until I needed my high beams and they would not come on. I go to check fuses and that mod, and sure enough I see melted plastic and fuse(still smoking). Removed that **** and moved on with life. I did check to see if everything works like normal if I put in new fuses back in their correct location, DRLs and high beams works just fine. Removed one fuse so I dont have that orange DRL on.

Meanwhile in 2022 those yellow DRL and their position where waaaay ahead of its time! Yeah yeah one could argue it was stolen from Mercedes but it looks better on the 2nd gen GS's....I have a 04 GS300 that I'm Diy'ing and retrofitting...I have the controversial halo style leds ( which actually are so bright they are like low beams ) and are actually the DRL along with the "yellow" factory style DRL. The difference is that the yellow "blob" is no longer present because the reflector bowl now has a cone shape around the drl/high beam bulb mimicking a projector direct beam within inside the halo. The halo illuminates around the cone giving it a classy luxurious look in MY EYES. I turn them into high beam yellow led fog lights since I don't need high beams anymore with the projectors as low beams with leds in them. Looks great, and works great. KEEP THE YELLOW DRL
