Thumbs up very reasonable

JDOE,

based on the info you gave, assuming the car has NOT been in accidents, you have a very good buy. try to see if you can get to $30k even.

also check all the service record, carfax.com for title(if buying from private party or independent dealer), and look for all the white stickers w/VIN on all body panels. if any of the panel has been replaced for any reason, the sticker will be missing.

for the extended warranty, look thru the threads, we had a extensive discussion on them a while back. or go to:

www.edmunds.com , they also have links to warranty companies.

Jdoe,

That seems to be a pretty good price but it does depend on where you live. In the SF bay area, everything is high. Like gs4will has said: just go over the service records and make sure that it hasn't been in any accidents. Hint I am sure that you are buying this car from a dealer right. Anyways, have them write and sign a statment that states that the car has never been in an accident. That will protect you if you find out that it been in the future. Than you have the right to sue the dealer.
Overall make sure that its the color that you want and walk around the car inside out to go over anything you might of overlooked.
Good Luck and 30K out the doors sounds better. They'll sell it for that price.
PS: get the warranty

Default Thanks for the help - more

I'd be buying the car from a wholeseller. It was serviced at the local lexus dealership though, and I had lexus check it out. They say the car is perfect, and I got their service records. I also did carfax...looks clean. Thanks for the help..any more info is always appreciated! And I will get the warranty...but i'll shop around for that a little more.

That's a good deal on that GS.

Its good that you have already checked the car out, carfax, service records, lexus inspection, and everything is clean.

Since it still has 1yr factory warranty left on it, you can get the Lexus extended warranty. Which is the one I would definitely get instead of the aftermarket ones, even if the Lexus one costs hundreds more.

Just look around the car well for scratches, dents, etc that you can point out to lower your price.

I think $30k out the door is possible though. You should definitely insist on that price. He will give it to you, and remember to get the Lexus extended warranty when your warranty expires, not any aftermarket warranty.

After your purchase, you can come back here and we will tell you what you can do to your GS so that you will like it even more !

Also, I have never seen a GS without heated seats, how can it not have that? Especialy on a GS400 with the wheels and chrome rims, you should double check but even if it does have them don't be too excited about it in front of the dealer

Good luck, and remember $30k out the door !

My '98 GS400 doesn't have heated seats.

It was an option in '98, but not too many cars headed for Atlanta seemed to have it (wonder why?). Not sure when it became part of the Premium Package (Why does Lexus call it that? Why not "Minimum Mandatory Options Package"?).

Anyway there are lots of GSs out there without heated seats and I'm really not all that excited about my soon-to-be-here GS430 having them. I'd have preferred putting the $$ into an option I would use more than 4 days a year.

I saw a GS one time on Ebay, I believe it was a 1999 and it didn't have NO options. I mean, no heated seats, no CD changer, NO LEATHER SEATS ! The seats was just like fabric that u see in Buicks. ! I've never seen that before, and I was like

Yeah I was wondering how the heated seats would be of use in places like Houston, FL, or Atlanta. But I still had never seen one without them, so that is why I was wondering. Heck, I used to think that all GS's had HID too, now I know that not all of them have it.

Over here the temp is lower than 50 for about 4 months or so, so its usefull here in East TN.

Wow, a GS with no leather seats & cd changer? Was it a 300 or 400?

Default Heated seats on GS - pass

I'm in Phoenix, the heat capital of the world, and it seems that a number of GS's here still have the heated seats option . As a few others have stated, you wouldn't think a seat heater would be of any use in a warm climate like AZ.

I bought a Tahoe LT last year and it also has heated leather seats. BUT -- and this is a big but -- the seat heaters have a LOW and HIGH setting. I never thought I would make use of them but on colder mornings when I head to the gym in shorts, I flick on the seat heaters to LOW and things are just right.

My friend has a GS400 w/heated seats and I noticed that the GS seat heaters don't have a LOW setting -- only OFF or ON. How lame is that? If my Tahoe didn't have the LOW setting on the seat heaters, I would never use the them because it would be way too hot. Without a way to set the heated seats to a low setting, I probably wouldn't use the GS seat heaters either.

Of course, no seat heaters means no HID (another lame thing on Lexus cars I must admit). Of course, you can always fake it with PIAA high output bulbs (that's what I do!).

Good luck on the purchase.

Thx...Doug

My GS doesn't have the low/high heated seats setting!

Why does Lexus do stuff like that, I would like a low heated seats settting for chilly spring or fall mornings.

I use the heated seats now and than. It works great for me and you don't need the low or high cause it turns on and off on its own. It stays warm and not hot at all. Try using it and you'll see what I'm talking about..

I have used the heated seats many times, but sometimes they get kinda hot, very helpful when its near the temp is near the teens, but I need a lower setting also for those chilly early spring mornings.

Summer, technically, still isn't here yet, June 21st is the date, so I am actually referring to current early morning chills

But its not too big of a deal, its just that Lexus should have included high/low heated seats instead of just regular heated seats as a option on all GS's, not just in specific regions

Default thanks

for your advice guys. I ended up getting the car at 30,600 +ttl. The dealer showed me his invoice...he bought the car for 29,775, and had to pay for an extra key and some other minor stuff, so he really didn't make much more than ~ 500$ or so.

As for mods...I'm coming from a 4cyl camry. It'll be a while before I need mods (at least performance mods).

DAMN it feels nice driving this car......
