curious, when the car is in park, doesn't it block some of the buttons?

I'm sure it does.. But once the car is in drive, you can probably reach the buttons no problem. For this kind of setup, there's no other place to really mount the climate unit.

nice job on the install....

Ken & Henry, oh but there IS an alternative that works well.

Jawnthen had the same issue with how to get a 7 inch monitor flush mounted in the dash and still have a place for a head unit all within reach , while still managing room for the AC controls.

What we did was take the detachable faceplate of his head unit and mount it in the HomeLink location. We then soldered ribbon cable to the connections on the back and installed the chassis in the glove so he could still reach over there to insert a DVD.

Here's the glove compartment where the head unit is stashed. You can see a bit of his dash where the monitor is mounted and the A/C located below. He still had room to install an 8" monitor, but no affordable one was available at the time.

Another CL member pushing the envelope !

C'mon Henry. A LOT more work? Nothing compared to the install of that head unit. Besides, who here doesn't like a challenge? It's all part of the fun of modding right?

Tell ya what, I'll put the Homelink in your visor if there's ever a need. It's not that bad. The electrical is tapped from the vanity mirror.

Go on E-bay there are TON's of Homelink visor units available. You don't need to buy from just an IS3. I got one for my car for like $30.

OK Next problem ?

Glen, that has got to be the coolest install of a HU and monitor I have seen! Sorry Lexis11.

How much work did that involve Glen? ( I am referring to the HU faceplate install in the homelink location and then soldering the ribbon wires to it and running those down to the HU itself)? What are ribbon wires anyway?

What kind of mount did you have to fabricate for the HU faceplate to fit in that location?

Well when this origianlly unfolded I was dead set from losing my homelink and my heater ducks in the top of the dash, obviously those were the two easiest ways to gain mor room.
Thats when I decided to put the climate controls in the glove box, wrong that sucked. So then we went with the setup I have now and it is awesome.

I am so happy with the install and the sound and everything works now and I didnt lose anything but a change holder(ashtray).
When the car is in park I cans till access all the buttons and when I drive it is simple.

The only thing I did notice was the preouts on this radio are wayyyyyyyyyyyy stronger than the IVA-D300. Holy cow I gotta retune all my mids and highs again, burning my ears.
