Default More on headlight condensation

Whytry and others will appreciate this. I visited my local Lexus dealership today at lunch. They had 5 preowned GS's lined up -- (in order) a 98, two 2000, a 2003 and a 2001. Today was a nice day in Chicago, and it was pretty clear that all 5 cars had been recently washed. All but one of the 5 cars had serious headlight condensation. And I'm not talking about just a little fog in the lense. There were droplets of water clinging to the inside of the lenses on 4 of the 5 cars. By the way, guess which one didn't have condensation? Not surprisingly, the 2003.

I know we always tell newbies to watch out for this problem when buying a preowned GS, but this really emphasizes that advice.

Thanks for the heads up. I think this is the one problem that members hate the most about the GS, I think because there is no real way to fix it, other than begging a dealer if you arent under warranty. I have been lucky so far and havent had problems with the condensation, except for a tiny tiny amount on the drivers side. I will consider myself lucky and hope I dont have the problem in the future

And the worst part about it is that you most likely wouldn't notice the problem in the heat of the summer. I believe you see it more in the winter (although I could be wrong) because moisture gets into the headlight assembly AND because the temperature inside the housing is warmer than the outside temperature. I could be wrong about this, but I believe it's the combination of those two factors that cause condensation to form on the lense.

e-man I think you are right. I think it is a combination of factors and the winter temps could have a lot to do with it. I wonder if there are a lot of FLA or Socal people that have this problem?
