Default Another Satisfied Amsoil Consumer

I hit 35k miles this week on the odometer so I had the guys at Batlground do a transmission flush, switching over to Amsoil UTF synthetic transmission fluid. It ended up taking 10 quarts to do the job and I can honestly say the shifts are noticeably smoother, especially noticeable when utilizing E-shift. I'd certainly recommend this to any of you guys experiencing any lag in shifting. Thanks for the help Dave.

I wonder how much of the improvement is due to the oil itself, and how much is due to the fact that you did a flush? In other words, I wonder if you would be having the exact same results if you had used factory fluid?

Amsoil sort of scares me. Not only does it sound like "Amway", but it's sold with the same multi-level marketing pyramid scheme.

At any rate, congratulations on the improvements!

Hello,
I have been an AMSOIL user for many years, and it is an excellent product. It is not for everyone...especially for those swayed by "perceptions" instead of facts. If using Toyota fluid makes you feel more secure, I say stay with it.

For others like me, I enjoy the protection AMSOIL provides regrdless of what they call it. I have it in my power steering gearbox as well, and you should see and feel the difference this fluid makes in my steering. I will keep it changed to ensure it stays clean and protect my rack and pinion assembly.

My automatic transmission has also been flushed, and the fluid replaced with AMSOIL Universal Transmission fluid. I also added a transmission cooler, so I am sure this fluid will be good for a long time to come.

I also have synthetic gear oil in the differential of all my rear drive cars. Not to mention the propylene antifreeze in the cooling system. NO PROBLEMS whatsoever in many years of usage.

AMSOIL has been an excellent product to me for many years. To each his own.

Good to hear Alfredo. Since I did my lowered-stall TC at the same time as the Amsoil synthetic ATF, I couldn't tell which was making the difference with the improvement in my setup (or both).

My GS is truely a 'mutt' of fluids.... Do research on each application and pick the best that works for me

Mobile One for oil
Amsoil for ATF
Redline for rear diff LSD
ATE Super Blue for brakes
Redline or Techron for injection cleaner

On my GS, no. I've put it in every 3 months or so since I bought it.

On my LS, absolutely. I don't think it was ever done and when I bought it with 68K miles I ran redline through and felt a definite increase in performance before the tank with the additive was run through. Enough difference in power to add a bit of wheelspin to the LS when it wouldn't do it before .

I'd like to know this as well - I'm about to get my dragon tc installed on my gs430 - can I use amsoil or can I only use it if all the original fluid is flushed out first. Someone suggested I use only toyota type iv tranny fluid but is amsoil OK as well?? Also where can I get amsoil atf and which type do I need (if there's more than one type of amsoil atf)? Thanks for any help.

I think you'll get varying opinions on a flush vs. drain depending on how many miles you have on your transmission and it's current condition. Amsoil is toyota type IV approved synthetic fluid and you'll wanna go with the Universal ATF fluid. I ordered a case directly from Amsoil online for my full flush, yet it only required 10 quarts to do the job. Hope this helps.

Thanks - so it's OK to mix amsoil with toyota fluid when I do the tc install??? (I wasn't really planning on doing a flush - I've got 70k miles - and don't know if it's been done before cause 69k was the previous owner.)

One thing I'm very wary of is using a non-oem fluid that nobody has really done long-term testing on before.

The reason for my fears is because I used to own a Supra TT 6-speed, and at the time I owned it, the entire MKIV community was saying to use Redline D4-ATF in the transmission to get smoother shifts, etc...even the tech folks at Redline were recommending this fluid for the Toyota V-160 gearbox.

Well, I did so and about a year later, someone brought up an issue that when the car was cold, the shifter would not center itself if moved between the 1st and 2nd gear gates. It was happening on my car at around the same time.

Research was done into it, and the conclusion was that a seal swell additive in the D4-ATF was causing the problem. At that time, it was also unknown how to rebuild the V-160, and the only way to solve the problem was too get a new tranny.

Again, my point is that unless some long-term testing has been done with the fluid, I would be reluctant to use it even if there are positive results immediately after the fluid swap. You can't really go wrong with the OEM fluid.

When I did the tranny flush on my old GS4, I only used the genuine Toyota fluid.
