Mine was lowered with stock struts and felt really unstable. I am popping in some L tunned shocks hoping that it will help. I am sure they can't compare to the adjustable coil overs you guys run. i just can't see droping that much money into my gs. I would prefer doing something like that to my supra. I have heard good stuff about sway bars for these big cars. I had my old tt supra rims on my 95 gs 300 for about 4 years on stock suspension and that car drove smooth until the miles caught up to it. It felt more secure then me newer gs at crusing speeds. I hope to find the happy medium with out going over board. I hope to soon have some stagered 20's 1 day. Little by Little

Brings me to my question - does anyone have an opinion on which rims look good with the stock ride height? Honestly, the only thing I've seen so far in the gallery that looks decent, are the stock 17"'s. I'm looking to stay at 17" or 18".

As I start my modding (so far - Infinity Kappa 10.1 free air sub - MTX amp running it, the Sport Design replica trunk lip, clear corners, Polarg M4 parking lights, outboard GPS with the Panavise mount - not bad for 8 days of ownership), I'm looking into wheel options. I'd like to keep my ride the same (or marginally different), as I came off a lowered car (Eibach springs and KYB AGX shocks) and hated it. I don't need handling, I'm all for the superficial right now

It's important to remember that it's O.K. to see what everyones opinion is about this matter, but remember that it is your car. If it looks good to you, then that's all that matters. You have to decide for yourself. Put the wheels on there and if after you decide it needs to be dropped, you still have options. There are alot of suspention components to choose from. Good luck and happy modding. Post some pics too.

Def. understand what you mean, its just kind of tough to find pics of people with no drop and wheels... now I see people's reasoning for that. I think I need to take a ride in a dropped car, and that will be the decision maker. I came off of a pretty modded Maxima, with a full aftermarket suspension - the car handled great, but the ride was jarring. That's sort of why I bought the GS - comfort first, and performance second. I rarely push the car and if I do its a open highway run (even with my Maxima). It would just be a shame to loose the beautiful ride in the GS, and also the quietness - the Maxima sounded like a bathtub full of sheetmetal with wheels. Anyway, I will try to get out to a NYC area meet next time you guys have one, and one of you will be nice enough to give me a ride in your dropped GS Originally Posted by TAMR_GUS98

Thanks for the opinions, btw. You guys really know what's classy and clean, something the Nissan crowd is, um... lacking.

If you are going to get rims do it right, drop it.....finish it up because sooner or later you will.
Trust me, there's no half way ok. Do it and do it all the way or DON'T.

18's will do just fine and not give you the 4x4 look. 20's or so so with out a drop. If you do drop it make sure you get the struts right away. There is a little more meat on a 18' tire. To me they feal more friendly on the road. I have 20's on my car and sometimes are not always please with a 35 series tire. But damm they look good.
everyone thinks different....so we all have different views....but imo if you have 3 fingers+ wheel.....thats still a 4 x 4 to me lol....imo the perfect drop is about zero gap (no tuck) on rears and 1/2 finger gap on fronts...as for my car I have the 1 finger gap....the only reason why is cuz i am scratching enough already Originally Posted by erics3000

Now I agree. However, I can't go out and make a fast lane change because I'm no longer stock. But when I was stock, I felt it drove fine and handled fine (unless of course you're auto crossing or take every single corner at high speeds). But for the average Joe, I think it handles just fine......maybe it's just that members in CL are too performance orientated. : Originally Posted by alexulan

I kinda had a suspicion you were coming from a Honda or Nissan. There is one huge thing about lowering Nissan vehicles, they have very little factory suspension travel, so when you lower them aggressively, the ride takes a down turn (quick). Trust me, GS with 18s and a Ltuned lowering, will probably feel like HEAVEN compared to the Max!Originally Posted by nicola

I will not lie, my TEIN HA coilovers and 20" tires are a stiff ride in Bklyn. Its not thats it rough, just STIFF. So you are aware of every ripple in the road. Conversley, my brothers' LS400 has L-SPORTLINE springs and 20" wheels, and it rides (no exaggeration) 2-3x better than mine! ( I can tear him up on the Jackie Robinson though
)Good luck and post more questions, as they come up and we will point you in the right direction.

It's MORE unsafe to make a sharp lane change at freeway speed, man. Originally Posted by alexulan

go with the HKS LS+ or the TEIN CS coilovers.....the ride will not feel bumpy or stiff(i have the tein cs with the dampening settings around middle).....if you get RIMS with LOW PROFILE TIRES...the ride will get a little more bumpy and noiser tho....by lowering...you will be lower to the ground....so more road feel is expected..I hope that helps Originally Posted by nicola

So John your saying it's safer to hit the 2x4 on the road going 65MPH with your $50K car or MORE safe to make a quick lane change and avoid it?Originally Posted by jtanoyo1

I too came from a fully modded show maxima (2003 on JIC coilovers) and dreaded the ride with a passion daily (one of those reasons I am extremely ANTI COILOVER on ANY CAR!!!!!)Originally Posted by nicola

The GS on eibachs and bilsteins (what I run) is definitely stiffer than stock, but not as stiff as the maxima was on springs or anywhere near coilover stiffness.
If you are in NYC or around I am located in Queens and I will be more than happy to give you a ride, or even let you drive it first hand to see how the car rides lowered....hit me up with a PM

The GS has such a "humpback" shape, then when its not lowered on 20s, the lines of it almost look unatural. It always looks like someone is holding the car up by its roof to me!! (when I put my coils on, I slammed the car so low I could barely drive it LOL).
Thats just my opinion though, to each his own
