I bought my lexus about a month and a half ago and when i bought it i could not shift the car into any of the gears without sticking a key of some into the lil spot next to the shifter (not the ignition) to get it to shift, however after a day or so the problem went away. Well today i was running a power wire thru my car (drivers side) and when i put everything back in place i have the same problem, shifting from park to any gears will not happen unless i stick something in that spot, and now the VSC lights are on and the ABS light is on, on the dash. Is there something i coulda done to create this problem, i hooked my remote wire to my radio fuse and it fell so i used a 30 amp fuse instead of a 15 but i took that out and it still had the same problems. (when i first had the car none of the lights on the dash would light up when i used to the key to shift so im kinda worried here.)

Your car is starting up fine, though, right? You are putting your foot on the brake when you do this, right? Is your steering wheel locked (try moving it from side to side). Is your battery doing ok?
Other than all of this the only thing I can guess is that some sort of custom wiring move the sensor that detects when the brake pedal has been pushed with the keys in the ignition and turned. You should hear a quiet 'clicking' sound normally coming from the gear shift area... this is the sound of the lock releasing when your car is running (or at least in the electrical accessory on position) and the brake on.

I have not heard this either. Sticking another key next to the ignition? Please explain further.

There is a place piece to the left of the gear shifter (very small plastic cutout with an even smaller slit in the middle of it) that you can pull out and then using your key, move the gear shifter out of park. It's very common for this to be done with installing a car stereo or whatever when you need the car to be out of park but don't want to have the key in the ignition with the electrical acceosories running.

this problem is pretty obvious. When you press the brake, the shift lock unlocks. There is a switch/sensor so to speak under the break so when you press the brake, you can shift. You need to look under your break pedal for this to see what the problem is and/or goto the dealer
anyone know what the vsc and the abs lights are now on?
My guess is that since the vsc and abs systems rely on knowing the position on your brake pedal... they are saying that they are not functioning right now for the same reason as you can't shift out of park without manually releasing the shifter.
VSC & ABS lights come on when you do a suspension changeout-because the wire is connected to the shock tower and in order to remove the shock/spring you need to disconnect this wire, which blows up the sensor
i dont think so, the only thing i did was touch a couple fuses and ran the power wire and the problem happened maybe the wire came un done when i was pushing the power wire thru the driver side firewall?????
does anyone know what wires to look for or anything to look for in paticular i didnt see any loose wires under the steering wheel but maybe something did come undone
Now the sensor on the brake has to be messed up because now when i press the brake on the remote start the engine no longer shuts off like its supposed too... it just keeps on running, so is there a wire sensor on a lexus that may have accidently been cut or a fuse that may have been blown? any help please!!
